What is the hardest part of blogging?

Blogging isn't as simple as taking what's in your head, and typing it on the internet.

Or maybe it is for some people... good for them.

But for many of us--especially those who have doing it as a business growth tool for years--there's a lot more to it.

  • Research
  • Planning
  • Writing
  • Spelling/grammar checking
  • SEO optimizing
  • Re-writing
  • Image sourcing / creation
  • Content upgrades / lead magnet creation
  • Publishing
  • Promoting
  • Getting people to read it

It can be a lot. And maybe you don't do all of these things (I really hope you don't lol). But when it comes to your blogging process, what is the hardest part for you?

  1. 3

The hardest part for me is to write in the regular basis. Everything else is easy.

    1. 1

Yea, staying consistent is very difficult. But what about promoting the article and getting traffic to it? Are those the types of things that are easy for you?

      1. 1

Yeah, I usually do it in Twitter.

  2. 1

The hardest part of blogging is to think about new content ideas and consistently doing high-quality outputs. Also, it's hard to find organic traffic nowadays. It is very taxing for me long-term.

    1. 1

One solution I've found to feeling like you have to have "new" content ideas is the idea of Evergreen content. These are posts that are still valuable years after they're published, and may only need small updates here and there to keep them relevant. I've banked 80% of my organic traffic and email signups because of evergreen blog posts.

    I agree with you 100%.
This is exactly why I created Blogely (https://blogely.com) after struggling for years building good product, but not having content strategy.

    1. 1

Interesting. What are your "promotion" features?

      1. 1

        What are you building?

      2. 1

Do you mean for the Blogely?
We are currently on AppSumo - https://appsumo.com/blogely
However, LTD offer will end soon, and I never want to go back. Blogely focus is on all-in-one software for content creators.
Blog writing is hard. You know that yourself.

        1. 1

No, when I looked through your homepage there was something that showed that one of your features was "Promotions". It seemed to communicate that your app helped with promoting blog posts. Did I read that wrong?

  4. 1

If you want your blog post to do well, it has to help people. But in order to write an article that helps people(for example, doing cloud work, or even tutorials), it takes at least 3x the amount of effort to write a really good post that has high value for others.

    1. 1

Yep. Writing is easy. Writing in such a way that brings tangible value to the intended reader is much harder.

    2. 1

👏 Exactly. When the goal is reader-value and not simply writer-output, the whole conversation changes.

i don't have a process other than just sitting down and writing something; anything.

if i do a bit of a longer piece i may spend time with the above... but, i dont' think much about that these days.

    1. 2

Understandable for your style/purpose of writing, John. You've got such a strong writing muscle that it's just second nature to you.

      1. 2

Or maybe even FIRST nature. lol

      2. 1

what i try to do is to help folks understand that what i do is a skill that can be learned by anyone. anywhere. it just takes time.
