What is the one thing you wished you did earlier?

Hey indie hackers 👋🏼

I’ve got a simple question for anyone that has grown their customer base:

What is the one thing you wished you did earlier when launching your product to help grow your customer base? 🤔

I wish I'd built a sales site and started collecting email addresses earlier. I didn't do too badly there, but a few extra months of directing traffic, writing blog posts, and collecting email addresses means potentially a lot more email addresses at launch.

Nice one Dan, I’m definitely going to be heeding this piece of advice.

      1. 3

        1up for that.

Had a blog post with 500K views and 0 monetizations few years ago.
        Collect those emails asap.

Thanks for the advice @uxwritinghub, I believe we connected on LinkedIn last year too :-)

And I think I joined your UX writing course too, which is awesome!

That's cool! Happy to see you here :) Feel free to reach out if you want to brainstorm a bit.

Do you mean free giveaway tools that are related to your product?

  2. 2

Cut the functionality of my product and consult with other persons on how to better implement it

    1. 1

Nice, did you reduce much of the functionality?

      1. 2

I did, I have like 150 tasks in backlog, but most of them are left for 2.0 version

  3. 2

    Just went for it!

I waited so long to start my projects and re-eveluate if people needed them even.
Just build, launch and try, the only way to go.

I love that! I’m notorious for thinking 1) people won’t want it, and 2) its too much work - I’ll never be able to do it.

      1. 2

Yes, same for me. But once you break it. It will get you places

  4. 2

    Took action earlier

    Don't be afraid

Once you take your first step, that's where it begins.

I’ve always put stuff off for “being too busy” but when I look at it really, I’m just afraid of putting my stuff out there. Thanks for sharing @outrankio

        I was like that too

I overthinked and rationalize saying I was too busy or no one is ever gonna like it without putting myself out there.

        That's all it is.

        A leap of faith

    Starting a newsletter, hands down.

    1. 1

Cool. How did that help? What kind of content did you include in it?

      1. 2

The newsletter hasn't actually helped yet, that's why I wished I had it ready (and with a bit more subscribers) when I launched my ebook. The newsletter is a curated weekly roundup of practical resources on Google products and related tech.

          Gotcha! That’s a great idea
