Hello, I am curious to hear what the community feels about pricing strategy during launch for a SaaS product.
I have heard arguments for and against having a free subscription (getting more users quickly vs. focusing on the core customers). Lifetime plans at launch also seem to be trending at the moment. Another aspect that I would be interested in hearing arguments for and against is having a credit card requirement for a sign-up, even if there would be a free trial period.
At the moment I feel like having only paid subscriptions with a brief free trial would combine the best of both worlds, but I remain undecided on the credit card issue. What do you think?
What I can say from this case study is that LTD with a large platform like AppSumo will definetely bring in the users, but it is more of a marketing investment than a pricing strategy.
I'm on you with the paid subscriptions with a brief free trial. Never a fan of having to hand over my CC just for a free trial.
Thank you for your input - that was an interesting read.
It would be interesting to see a long-term analysis of the users that have acquired lifetime access. If they tend to be "core users" who continue to use the service for good, providing a lifetime access pass could provide short term gains at the expense of long term results, given that the discounts seem huge. However if the users would be more casual (i.e. use for a while, spread a good word and abandon) there could be a lot of value. The value of the exposure from such services is undeniable, however.
