What process you followed to ensure the right fit with a potential co-founder who was not from your friends or colleagues circle?

Hi!

Any of you here on-boarded a co-founder who was not from your friends or colleagues circle, but someone who you connected online, or someone who has been introduced to you via a mutual connection.

Wanted to get inputs on how you approached on-boarding them and made it work.

Even if you haven't personally done it, if you know someone who has done this, will be helpful to get the thoughts.

Context : I'm building a mobile first community SaaS app, we had customer trials with the MVP, and an upgraded 3rd version is getting launched. We're bootstrapped and looking to onboard a tech co-founder.

Thanks!

I did it for my previous business, in the context that I viewed him as a co-founder after the business had existed for a few years and I was looking to step back and for him to take over the reigns of running (and co-owning it).

I worked with and paid him on a project by project basis for a couple years before fully committing to him becoming a co-founder.

I don't think it has to take that long, but I do recommend people spend time working together on something before committing to official co-founder.

Was it the case that, when he joined you, he wanted to become a co-founder?
Or was it more like after you worked with him for couple of years, you found a partner in him.

Actually I'm looking for someone who can be on-boarded as a co-founder in the shortest time possible, 2-3 months if possible, as they'll be an integral part in building the company, where the initial mindset that's needed will be much more than an employee's mindset.

The idea of making an employee in future, a co-founder is also great.

And also it makes a lot of sense to work together for some time, before committing that role.

      Thanks for sharing!
