What software do you use for email marketing automation?

For the last month, I'm struggling to find a good SaaS solution to set up my automated email campaigns.

The tool should provide:

  • Automation workflows with A/B tests support;
  • UI editor to create templates;
  • REST API to subscribe contacts and trigger events that can be used in automation workflows;
  • Reports with all the regular email metrics (like open rates, unsubscribes, and such) per each email in the automation;
  • Reports for A/B tests.

Sounds simple, but after exploring the market I found only two solutions that fit my criteria: Sendinblue and ActiveCampaign.

I opted in for Sendinblue because of the cheaper prices and now am regretting it. =(

It turned out they have hidden costs and limited functionalities on the reporting side. On top of that their service went down a week ago and since then I've managed to send 0 emails. Their customer support is playing ping-pong with my tickets already for a week without any prospects of resolving the issue.

I'm wondering if any of you have a similar business case and how did you solve it? I'm doubting between migration to pricy ActiveCampaign and developing my own bicycle on top of AWS SES.

    Might be worth taking a look at https://www.zoho.com/marketingautomation/

    Zoho fly under the radar for a lot of things, but there tools are normally pretty flexible. The only thing they aren't great at is the UI side of things - I always have to hunt for a particular setting if I want to change things. It's normally there, just not always easy to find.

      Thanks for the advice. Will take a look.

    I use Mautic
    Now building my own (but only a subset of capabilities)

      Did you fork Mautic for that purpose (as it seems open source)?
      Is I something you are working on just for internal usage purposes or as a product you are planning to sell?

      1. 1

        Not using any Mautic source code in my project.
        For sale but it is not purpose built for marketing automation, just has some functionality which supports specific use cases.

        I deployed it using a docker

    I've used lemlist in the past

      How was your experience?

      1. 1

        I tried lemlist last year. I wanted to like it, but I found it frustrating to use.

        Here's a Google Doc I sent to the lemlist team with some of the issues I experienced: https://docs.google.com/document/d/1KEftdD8uJeG9WUvBxTBrT20RLFUvy-k7AP1AH5XZQRM/edit?usp=sharing

          Thanks for sharing. It seem you really tried to like it, as you say :)
