What's building in the open mean to you?

Recently I've noticed a few people building their next SaaS in the open. What I infer this means is a more frequent (often daily) update on what was accomplished. This can happen via a tweet, blog post, or even a short video. Notably, Noah and Ben from the Product Journey podcast are about to do so or have recently.

I don't see this as really a viable marketing channel, but more of a community (this one really) engagement/accountability method.

I've been toying with the idea as I think it could be fun to share the decisions, progress, etc. in, what can often be a lonely journey. But nor do I want to just shout into a void. 😂

Anyhow, what's building in the open mean to you? Is it for accountability, just for the fun, or something more such as to attract your target audience to follow you?
