What's your morning routine? 🌄

Here's mine:

  1. Wake up around 6:30
  2. Do a few 'to-do' items to jump into the habit of productivity
  3. Eat a quick pre-workout meal
  4. Hit the gym and get back by 8:00
  5. Brew a cup of coffee while performing post-workout stretch
  6. Start work at 8:30

I skipped some of the nitty gritty details like brushing teeth, getting dressed, etc.

What is your morning routine?

    1. Wake up at 6:30
    2. 15 mins workout
    3. Have breakfast
    4. Work from 7:15 to 8:45 to 🌀 Refactoring (might be writing or reading or promoting based on the day of the week)
    5. Have a small break
    6. Start my job at Translated at 9:00

    I am working from home right now so there is no commute, otherwise I replace #6 with 30 mins of driving in the traffic (not exactly the same thing 😅)

      Is your workout just a quick home workout?

      I'm also WFH right now and it's saved me much time. I used to wake up at 4:30-5 just to get to the gym on time.

        Yes it's a home workout, I have bought an adjustable dumbbell so I can do a wide range of exercises with it. A bit pricey, but best purchase in a long time.

        WFH has been a blessing for my productivity, but this is because I don't have children 😄

    2. Curse the world and myself for deciding to go on a caffeine detox

    I've tried a bunch of these but keep getting caught up in performing a ritual without getting the benefit. The goal I want to achieve is to be clear and focused for my day.
    So I've ended up doing this:

    1. Wake up at 7:00, every day.
    2. Get a coffee (espresso machine) and avoid reading/listening to anything. Just try to let the mind churn.
    3. Get a shower and dress.
    4. Meditate for 15-20 minutes.
    5. Another coffee.
    6. Set up my tasks for the day, and start working.

    Basically avoid email and news until after lunch.

    I just got back into intermittent fasting and loving the new routine. Here it is:

    1. Wake up around 7-7:30.
    2. Drink water; make coffee.
    3. Deep work session until around noon.
    4. "Breakfast", then work out.

    I love the feeling of being so productive before lunch time.

    And I feel like my work is even more productive before I flood my mind with email, news, social media, and just life in general. It's a blank slate.

      This is great and something I'm going to start practicing in the mornings.
      What's your deepwork strategy?

        I revamped it a bit after reading Deep Work by Cal Newport. Would definitely recommend it!

        I do a few things:

        1. Put away my phone somewhere where it can't distract me.
        2. Track my time in deep work and how long tasks take.
        3. Set goals and don't get distracted by email, social media, etc.

          Thanks for the recommendation! I'm currently reading Hyperfocus so Deep Work will be an excellent complement.

    1. Wake up whenever I feel refreshed (Sleep is #1)
    2. Get out of bed. Put on morning robe.
    3. Make french press coffee, two cups.
    4. Look out the window, get mentally ready to start the day.

      On #1, do you find yourself waking up around the same time everyday? Or does your sleep and wake schedule fluctuate frequently?

        Fluctuates by -- at most -- half an hour

    3. Courses on Udemy
    4. 8:00am - a bowl or two of store-brand Cheerios
    5. 8:30am - start the workday

    I try to keep mine super simple:

    • 7 Minutes of Qi Gong to stretch and activate my body
    • 1 pushup, plank and squat. Though once I start I usually do more.
    • Sit on my meditation cushion start my meditation timer. I usually sit for 2 minutes, sometimes more.
    • Journal my 3 wins from yesterday and reflect on what's coming up for me today

    I'm more focused on building the habit of my morning routine right now rather than going super deep into any one particular practice. Hence why the minimums are so easy.

      I've never heard of Qi Gong, just Tai Chi. I've been looking for something to supplement my morning stretch so perhaps you just gave me my answer!

    Awesome post! Inspired me to take an action on my morning routine, which is kinda messy now.. Thanks, mate! Tomorrow, I hope I will get in my jogging shoes and go for a run in the morning!👌👍🏃‍♂️

    If you are looking to optimize your morning routine, you should check out "The 5 AM Club: Own Your Morning. Elevate Your Life." by Robin Sharma.

    I did it for a couple weeks and thought it was solid. Need to start that up again.

    I don't think you truly need to get up at 5 AM exactly to get the benefits. Using 5 AM just makes it more marketable.
