What's your one-liner?

Hey folks!

I just published my first article with a guide about how to create your one-liner!
Link here -> https://noobmaker.substack.com/p/whats-your-one-liner

Now, I want to share with you the practice exercise from the end of the article:

  1. Share your website and one-liner in the comments and let other people learn from your journey.

  2. Comment on other people’s one-liner with what you understood so that they can validate if they really transmit the correct message.

Let's get started!

P.S. Feel free to follow me and to upvote this post so I can bring value to more people!

Lipy puts a new language on your lips :-*

    1. 2

I guess this is your project -> https://lipy.cc/wp/

Anyway, the font is not really my taste, it looks a little too old-school for my taste, but that's purely personal.

You also seem to miss the reason why I should use an Interactive language learning solution. You have the what, if you scroll down you have the how, but I don't see any why.

There are multiple ways to address this, one of them is thinking about why you created this solution initially, did you created it for yourself? What didn't you found in an already existing solution?

The tagline from what I see from the website could be something like:

Put a new language on your lips, the fun way!

      I hope this helps!

  2. 3

Awesome! It took me a while to get my oneliner right and not sure if I am super happy with it yet. Would love some feedback!

"StartupCrowns, the startup community growth game."

    1. 2

This is a really clever idea, but the one liner doesn’t do it justice. I agree with @LexPaval that the descriptive text further down helped make things click.

I wasn’t clear on the “game” aspect to this at first. Especially because the website doesn’t look very playful.

Perhaps something along the lines of “The social startup leaderboard” (or something like that) would be more descriptive?

      1. 3

Thanks @triangle, this is amazing feedback and especially your comment about " because the website doesn’t look very playful.". This is super important and you are totally right. The website looks pretty boring and more like an analytics platform. I have changed the homepage and I am much happier with it now. Party mode is ON! https://startupcrowns.com

    2. 2

Hey! Nice product you have there! The one-liner that you have put there is but a description of your product, while it does describe it a little bit, I feel you have a better nugget in the about page:

What happens to all those cool products and startups after they got listed on Product Hunt? Now you can keep track of your favourite startups and see how they grow on social media after they have launched.

I feel this should be somehow integrated on the landing page, this explains all the questions that I had when I initially stumbled upon your product.

      Thanks for sharing!

      1. 2

This is exactly what I thought and you are the first one who points this out. The homepage doesn't communicate enough about what the platform does. Going to fix this right away. Kind of important :) Thanks a lot!

      2. 1

I have updated the homepage and added a model and some nice confetti. It is much more clear what it is, and much more playful. I am going to revamp the whole site and make it much more fun. Thanks so much for the feedback. I knew something was missing, but couldn't put my finger on it. This is probably because of the switching of heads and creating blind spots by looking at it for a long time :) https://startupcrowns.com

      3. 1

The description there made it clearer for me too!

      I only understand backend

      1. 1

Make sense. We're targeting a niche audience in the beginning.

An alternative tag line would be: Open-source Google Firebase alternative with GraphQL.

    2. 1

I really dig your landing page, and the way it's worded seems to be aimed towards technical people.

Unfortunately, I am not familiar with all the technologies used and therefore I don't understand if it's for me or not, I don't know if your solution is solving my problem.

That could be perfectly fine if I'm not your target audience, just keep in mind that non-technical people could skip your product just because they don't understand what problem you're solving.

I would like to ask you, why did you create this product?

      1. 1

I agree with your feedback. It's a dev tool for developers. Very technical indeed.

I created this product to let developers and companies get apps to market faster.

        1. 1

In that case, I say you did a good job! Have fun!

    https://creatorswhocode.com

    1. 2

Yep, this explains it! It's a nice niche you have there, you can easily put so many guides on how to set up your LinkedIn profile, how to do cold-reach, and all that.

I wish you luck with your project!

Hypnos.ai - Discover which habits impact your sleep.

    1. 2

This is such a good idea! I struggled a lot during college with sleep due to to poor sleep hygiene.

You have a fairly descriptive one-liner, that's all fine, but you should try to play around a little with something that calls to action or addresses the reward. Something like:

      Take control over your sleep.

Do some A/B testing and see how people respond.

      Keep up the good work!

  6. 2

Laylo.com - The last landing page tool you'll ever need

    1. 1

Hey, thanks for sharing! I feel your one-liner is a little bit misleading, or maybe too vague to be useful.

After reading the line, I was expecting to have something related to something with drag-and-drop elements, elementor style thingie.

The product is fine though since it's dedicated to drop landing pages.

So, just use that to give some context:

The last drop landing page tool you'll ever need

You can play more with this and see where you can put it on your landing page.

      1. 1

Thanks for the feedback! We're trying to figure out how to better explain that we're offering dead-simple landing page tools built for drops. So while we're thinking about drag and drop elements etc, we think those tools exist and are for the more advanced page builders. We're aiming for 3 minutes or less to get setup and launched.

        1. 1

Then just use that as your one-liner.

Launch in 3 minutes or less.

Hi @LexPaval ! We (founder's team) dont know what's better.

    https://www.indiehackers.com/product/handypolls

    1. Online poll creation tool
      or
    2. Poll service that just work

    We on early beta stage!

    1. 1

Certainly not 1, it's way too vague, it doesn't have anything that differentiates you from the rest of the products from the market.

2 is much better, but from what I read about your goal from the project page, you can experiment more, something like:

      1 click poll service

Since the purpose is to have something minimalist, with a fast creation process, you can think about what questions are the potential customers asking themselves.

Creating a persona profile for your ideal customer would help you a lot in identifying what they really want to hear.

From looking at your product, I notice you don't really have anything on your landing page, it's cool that you get straight to creating the poll, but I would suggest that you add something about benefits and something else below.

People will be asking why should they use your product even after arriving on your page, so keep that in mind.

Binery - Accounting designed for SaaS businesses!

Going through beta at the moment :)

    binery.co

    1. 1

Hey, I like what you have there, it seems focused enough, what I couldn't find though, is your free plan or even a trial.

You could think about a scenario where I have a SaaS, it's at a very early stage, I make very little money but I want to integrate your solution from the get-go.

I think pricing should be scalable, like businesses, and it should start with free.

      1. 1

        Thanks for the feedback!

Quick question: Would you want your fee to be charged as a % of your monthly revenue or expenses? Or would you prefer a flat transparent fee?

        and Why?

        1. 1

Considering your product, I would say both.

A free plan with a charged % of your monthly revenues or expenses would work wonders for small businesses, you will be their hero and you would create loyal customers that have a higher chance to upgrade in the future.

When they start growing, they will face the problem that they have too many expenses on your product, and there you can help, are you big enough to get our PRO or something else plan, sure, just pay our transparent flat fee and you are golden.

          1. 1

            Hey Lex,

We really took your feedback to heart, especially about the flexibility with usage based pricing.

Can we connect over Zoom to exchange ideas? Interested in how SaaS founders treat accounting!

30 minutes of your time would be much appreciated!

            1. 1

Sure, I have the email in the profile section.

Just keep in mind that I'm not in the USA, and I only have experience with incorporations in Romania.

Unset is a tool to capture, debug and test your Laravel notifications sent from non-production environments.

This has had countless iterations, landing page is not up yet

    1. 1

It's fine to use this as a description on your landing page, it describes what it does and it's a technical product.

What you could add additionally on your landing page, is the pain-point. What are the current solutions missing? The UX, the UI, why would I use your service?

Also, make sure you include a free pricing option to help with the onboarding of new customers.

  12. 2

Modern Memories - Letters written today. Delivered in the future.

    1. 1

This is such a cool idea, I like it. The one-liner feels spot-on!

What I feel there is a little bit of missed opportunity, is that you offer no digital alternative.

A digital version of this could be a good idea, whether you send it physically or digitally, or you could even separate them for different prices.

The only problem that I see with the overall business is, what happens if you're not on the market in 10 years' time? Do you refund people?

I know the feedback is not exactly related to the one-liner, but I hope it helps you on your journey!

  13. 2

    democratize community buildingYEN.FM

    1. 2

Hey, I like your project and your content, top job!

The one-liner that you put here I could not find on your landing page or something and I feel it's rather complicated and vague.

Are the current communities not democratic? Is the building of our current communities not democratic? Why do I want a democratic community building?

You do address most of these on the about page, and I like it.

I feel this one-liner fits better:

Educating you in building a better community.

But in the end, for your type of product, it might not be that important.

But I guess that's how you validate the ideas, you ask the community :D.

So feel free to play around with this.

      1. 2

        all good!

"democratize" in this context isn't about making more communities "more democratic"...

... it's about helping more folks learn HOW to build communities.

        de·moc·ra·tize
        /dəˈmäkrəˌtīz/
        verb

        make (something) accessible to everyone.

example: "mass production has not democratized fashion"

so, we're making the practice of "building community" more accessible to everyone, everywhere.

how do we do this? by sharing FREE information about HOW to do it! through the newsletter, articles, vlogs... etc.

our belief is that our world is a better place when there are MORE healthy communities.

        :)

        1. 2

Ha, didn't know that democratize exists like that, the limitations of a non-native ignorant.

It makes a ton more sense now, keep up the awesome work!

          1. 1

i thought so! no worries! glad i could provide more context!

Get comics delivered to your inbox every week

    1. 2

It's pretty straightforward, what I would add, is something that gives some kind of context or something more specific, something like:

Get the comics you want in your inbox every week!

Or maybe there are random comics, in that case, it could be:

Get brand new comics delivered to your inbox every week!

      I hope this helps!

Howitzer - Reddit Marketing Made Easy!

    1. 2

I understood exactly what the product does without even having to click the link, I guess that's the magic of your product.

I like that you addressed on your landing page some of the pressing questions that customers could have, I like that.

What I would suggest that you add, is a free forever plan, make it limited but offer it, as it provides good exposure, people can use it for small launches or something and later there is a potential that they upgrade to your paid plan.

      I hope this helps!

  16. 2

Edit your video by only edit text - Type Studio

    1. 2

I guess this is the website -> https://typestudio.co

I don't think it needs additional tinkering about, it's descriptive enough, the landing page is fun, the free plan is nicely compared with the paid options, the only thing you could add here is to recommend the pro version, but it's cool that the button with a different color attracts the attention there.

      All in all, top job!

      1. 1

Thanks for your great feedback! I really appreciate that :)

    Listle - personalized video news

    1. 1

This is also the only thing on our website (https://listle.io), but not sure if it's enough to get people intrigued and download the mobile app.

      1. 2

I don't think it's enough, really, I only clicked to see what's about.

I would suggest creating some kind of scrolling landing page, to showcase some of your features, some use-cases, and a must-have, the why this app exists.

Here's what I figured out you could use on your landing page:

Avoid falling into the rabbit hole by using our daily personalized news.

        I hope this helps!

        1. 1

"Avoid falling into the rabbit hole by using our daily personalized news."

This is exactly what we're trying to covey!! Thanks!

    1. 1

Hey man, I like the idea, I don't really know if you can do a better job presenting the landing page using substack, that's why I basically use my personal website as the landing page for now - lexpaval.com

I would suggest writing an article about why your substack exists, the article The current bottleneck of the world hits that, but the title is a little misleading.

Just keep in mind why you started your project, what value you want to provide to the people, and how does life look like after they were touched by your value. (I got a little artistic, here, lol)

      1. 1

"and how does life look like after they were touched by your value"

        I like that.
I made awesome connections with people who reached out to me and we are in the process building ideas out. I'll keep documenting my journey.

  18. 2

    SaveMeASeat.io, Networking for remote groups
    ....very....bad....ugh...

    1. 1

I would say you have to work more on your landing page and the one-liner.

To be honest, the first thing that came to my mind when I read the link, was some kind of VPN, the literal meaning of networking, but we can fix that :D.

I would bring the scroll-slides from How it works to the main page.

The video is top-notch though, it starts directly with the problem, that's what you want to portray also in the text, on your landing page.

Here is my take for the one-liner:

      Making people know each-other, remotely!

This should give a glimpse of what you do and you can the how down the page.

        1. 1

I think it's better now, everything seems to be there in the scroll pages, and the message seems nicer and friendlier.

          Top job!

      1. 1

Love it. I've been meaning to overhaul the landing. Got some very cool fresh ideas I've been sitting on, just lacking the motivation. On it. Thanks, Lex.

  19. 2

https://queryboost.com - One api for all your business processes
Not too happy with it at the moment

    1. 2

Well, that can be fixed easily, here is my suggestion:

The last API you will ever need.

Other than that, I believe you did a good job addressing the pain point, mainly that having to deal with multiple APIs can be a real PITA.

The one thing that I believe you should work towards, is having some people's testimonials and some numbers to show how much time/money can people save by using your product, just to make your service more appealing.

Related to pricing, I say here you have a little bit of missed opportunity, while I like that you give a full 30 days trial, I really feel you should give people a free forever plan, limit it to 500 requests or something, but have it there.

Don't underestimate the power of free services, they provide real benefits to your exposure and marketing potential.

      1. 1

Thanks for the feedback. I will work on incorporating it. FYI there is a free plan for 1000 req. I guess I need to make it more prominent on the pricing page

        1. 2

Oh, I didn't notice it, if you have it, please put it next to the paid options so it's clear for people what they get compared to the free package.

  20. 2

https://www.thisismylaunch.com/ - The easiest way to launch your new Products and Services

    1. 1

While the first screen only offers me the solution, the answer to Why should I care comes at the very first scroll, I feel that is the most important thing on your landing page.

      Launching is hard

I love the fact that your landing page has a story format, it addresses the reason behind your project in a meaningful way.

The only thing that I would personally improve, is to bold important ideas from the paragraphs. For example, the questions could be bold.

Readability is the only point I would improve, I really like the rest of the page.

      Thumbs up!

      1. 1

Hey, thanks for feedback! I completely agree with you, I've made this landing page before MVP was released, before I had any users so I know it's not perfect. I will focus on making those improvements in the upcoming redesign. Thanks again.

    1. 1

Ha, this feels like cheating, but I like it!

What I would improve, is to compare the weekly free newsletter with the daily one.

Have them side by side and tell the people why they should care about that daily one. Stating the obvious should be okay, it would be awesome if you could back that up with some kind of numbers (Ex: Increase your chances to get a job by 600% or something).

      1. 1

That actually sounds like a really good idea we did not think about! We should try and see:)

  21. 2

https://hashtagslayer.com - “The easy Instagram hashtag tool”

I’m curious, is this line too vague?

    1. 1

While that line is pretty vague, you do a very good job addressing all my questions while I scrolled down the page and I see that as a plus.

I don't feel it adds too much value to the landing page, to be honest.

I feel you should put somehow the problem somewhere on the first screen in a meaningful way.

      Or maybe:

      Ace your Instagram hashtag game!

From what I read, it gives you the ultimate and only tool that you need for Instagram hashtag management, that's powerful!

People have soo many problems with Instagram hashtags, besides the fact that they don't know what hashtags to put, so you can address this issue head-on.

The struggle-free Instagram hashtag tool for a good night's sleep.

Feel free to play with these ideas and track how customers respond to it.

      P.S. I bookmarked your project, I like it :D

      1. 1

Thanks so much for the thorough feedback. Really appreciate. And I gotta say - even just the change from "easy" to "struggle-free" is a good one! It communicates the same thing, but I always forget to talk about pain :)

  22. 2

Mine's "Trade product feedback with others building products" at https://development.kitchen

    1. 1

Hey, I like your landing page, it's clean and I believe it expresses what the product is really about.

My only gripe is with the one-liner, as a non-native speaker I had to read it 2-3 times to understand it, I believe this can be improved a little.

Trade product feedback with other product builders.

Somehow this small change makes it so much better.

      What do you think?

      1. 1

Oh interesting, I didn't realize that was a confusing phrase. Yeah, if that change makes it clearer for you, it's wortwhile changing it. The phrase "others building products" was an internal struggle to try to encapsulate not just founders but developers, designers, etc. But perhaps that's just muddies the water - I've considered just changing to "Trade product feedback with other founders".

        1. 1

For me, it's pretty clear that "product builders" could be also designers or freelancers.

I see no harm in positioning yourself for other founders, but it's not necessary to do that, I guess it depends on how you want to market it.

You can try both, do A/B testing and track the results, that's the best way to do it!

I feel this is not specific enough. Get things done, how, why?

I know you are still building your product, but I guess this is an important part that would differentiate your product from others that want to do the same thing and are free (Google Tasks, Microsoft To-Do).

From the name, I guess the idea was to have a co-pilot in your life, that provides relief from mental concentration regarding tasks, you can put this in words, I don't understand enough about your product to give you an example.

You should present some key features on your landing page at some point and even create an about page that explains why you decided to create this product, what was missing from other products, and so on.

      1. 1

Ask yourself questions, ask friends to test your product, and ask them questions, write their questions down.

Simon Sinek as a whole about the why of companies and that can be translated to products as well, the book is called Start with why, you can check it out, it's a cool read.

That's what you can do, ask questions, use some mind-map software to put everything together (or a doc, or excel, or notepad, whatever is comfortable for you), and get asking questions and figuring out answers.

Another way would be to create a persona profile for your ideal customer, who is he, what does he like, what questions would he ask? What would he want to see?

Questions are everything and you can practice by yourself, just scroll this thread, click the links of other people that put their products here, and write down what questions did automatically come to your head when you landed on their landing page.

Then see how those questions could apply to your product as well, since you are familiar with your product, it's harder to come up with these questions, so just use the questions that you collected from other sites as a template for yours.

          I hope this helps!

Hey, you have a nice looking website and service!

What I couldn't find on your website, is the why?

Why should I choose privacy-friendly analytics for my website?

Does anybody want that? Who wants that? Is there a trend towards privacy? Where?

It might not be the main idea that started this project, but after some digging, I found something that you can use, here is my proposal:

We make privacy regulations simple and fast.

I guess that would be the main reason to use your service, but maybe I don't understand it that better.

I hope these questions bring some light to your product's marketing strategy!
