What's your shortest domain?

A bit of a fun way to get inspiration for domain names...what's the shortest domain that you own?

Bonus points: what's the longest one you have?

  1. 11

    https://tiny.mba is my shortest!

Funny story, I went to register the domain some weeks before my book launch and was frustrated to find that it was taken.

Then I looked and saw it was taken....by me 😂.

    1. 3

Giftlab.co - Tis the season for killer revenue ;)

      1. 2

I like this idea. So many gift list idea sites are not good.

    2. 1

Another funny story. I just got my first sale for typeyourname.com from here. That was the first time I ever mentioned it.

    3. 1

Nice! Great use for that TLD.

    4. 1

      such a great domain.

    5. 1

I can relate with that. 🙄

      1. 1

🎁 from past me to now me!

  2. 4

T.LY is my shortest and you guessed it, it's a URL shortener service with a simple API, analytics, and custom domains. I also created an extension to make it super quick to shorten and share links. T.LY/extension

    1. 1

dang! how did you luck out to snag that one? How much did you pay for it and how long have you had it?

  3. 3

Back in 1999/2000 I've built the back end code for:
    go.to
    fly.to
    surf.to
    come.to
    etc.
    And then they bought... i.am ! 😍
I still think it's the coolest domain name I've ever seen 😎

    1. 1

You know who has subdomain on i.am? https://will.i.am :D

      1. 1

FortuneCity was the last owner I know, but as I look into the WHOIS data, I understand that it has expired and re-registered some years ago!
Too bad it wasn't me, I should have checked regularly
I don't know who owns it now, but it probably won't be cheap

      1. 3

I just realize that https://oh.no makes a great name too!

  4. 3

I don't have any particularly long or short domains, but my best friend has:

    http://www.matthewcallanananananananananananananananananananananananananan.international/

    • a pun on the fact that people often spell his name incorrectly.
    1. 2

neat: I see he's maxxed out the 63 chars. My longest domain name is actually a guide to making domain names like that:

      https://DomainNamesCanBeUpTo63CharactersLongLikeThisButShortDomainHacks.Win

    2. 1

That domain is so annoying, lol.

      1. 1

It really is! He's got business cards with it on, too. You'd have to remember how many A's and N's are involved to make it in any way useful. It's funny, though. He's got a good eye for catching attention.

  5. 2

I picked up log.fm for a podcast search engine I am working on.
and fii.sh a few weeks ago for a quick and simple url shortener

      1. 2

Thanks Kenneth, it's probably the favourite domain that I own.

  6. 2

Basically my own website, https://rathes.me, is the shortest domain I've got at the moment.

Longest one should be http://learn-tamil-online.com (as an alias to https://learn-tamil.com) but for some reason it doesn't work and I only noticed now when I wanted to post here 😂

    1. 2

Neat domain and site. FYI I briefly saw strange white screen with code while page was loading.

    1. 1

      my fav is: brain.みんな

  7. 2

I bought yep.so a few weeks ago! And put up a joke email service on there. But will probably repurpose it as I know nothing about running an email service.

  8. 2

    My personal website

    taj.im

    1. 3

      an excellent domain.

      1. 3

Haha it’s the only one I own :P

        1. 3

          so much.. self-control!

  9. 1

I rebought https://sy.media this year because i lost access to my former email :D And in the past i had pyr.ro

  10. 1

https://shipit.club is the shortest (I know it's not that short but that's the only one I have :( )
and https://myfailedstartups.com is the longest one (that's pretty long 😆)

  11. 1

I’m one of those with too many domains and too little time to run the projects.
    Shortest: http://pop.on
    Longest: http://autonomousminds.com
    Most odd: http://term.is

With all of them there’s a brilliant gameplan to become billionaire ASAP. I juuuuust need to get started 😂

  12. 1

at the moment the following 2 names:

    criev.com
    wempu.com

  13. 1

    I have a few "4.2" link shorteners:
    ceru.li
    wrnr.me
    crst.al

See my blog post (https://blog.w4rner.com/2020/10/07/disappointed-in-cuttly.html) for how to use CloudFlare to redirect domain even on free plan with link shortening services.

  14. 1

I have my1l.ink, lisnl.ink and based on this thread, just bought my🔗.fm

  15. 1

    Sooo many to choose from:
    k8s.nl, v13w.com, etc

None of them have anything on it, I’m just to scared to let them expire

  16. 1

https://eposo.io is my shortest but my favorite one is decade.app (WIP)
and the longest one is http://initiatorcreator.com

  17. 1

https://neno.xyz is my shortest domain nowadays, I used to own a shorter one a couple of years ago but I no longer was in need of it.

  18. 1

personal website w1zm8.com (work in progress)

  19. 1

vlad.qa, my personal website. I would be happy to use vl.ad, but this domain has 3 characters minimum requirement >_<

  20. 1

    fam.so 🤗

So glad I just found this group while searching for beta testers for Alias.so!

  21. 1

    Adfind.co and jotpal.com

Can't afford the really short and good ones 😉

  22. 1

From looking at my list, shortest (non-expired) is tenders.press - an upcoming private newsletter with weekly high-value EU & US government contract leads (bids, tenders, RFPs, RFIs, RFQs, RFBs).

  23. 1

if we're talking gTLD's then probably zpoz.net and zece.org and if we're talking ccTLD then it is bfr.ro

  24. 1

Good question! So bonus first: My current project is on the long end https://knowledge-entrepreneurs.com which is really unfortunate. I even added the dash because otherwise it would be a really hard word knowledgeentrepreneurs 🧐 The shortest one I have is https://trickle.app and I really like it 🤓

    1. 1

Does 0u0 refer to a Korean word? 🙂

      1. 1

        Nope. Just smile emotion meaning.

  25. 1

Currently my shorter domain name is iLoveGod.com
And its also my favorite. Though ill soon own my first 5 character domain here in next day or 2:)

  26. 1

Mine is igames.dev that just reddirects to my twitter @igamesdev :)

  27. 1

r95u.com, it's more or less a test domain.

  28. 1

    i just bought
    🔗 https://jb.contact
    for my portfolio.

    *these are my initials

  29. 1

    A development domain themgc.dev

  30. 1

    Definitely my personal website, https://www.alenv.com/
Still can't believe it wasn't taken already 🙌

  31. 1

I once bought a domain as my nickname https://smeshny.com/

  32. 1

https://www.mypad.in/ ... i wanted to either create a broker platform (RE .. homes ..pads) ... procrastination led me to just use it as "my pad" .. sort of like myspace

  33. 1

    util.app

A domain for nifty web tools

    1. 1

This looks neat. Curious how it ranks with SEO. I would imagine that getting certain utilities to be the #1 result would bring lots of traffic.

      1. 1

Yes, thanks! Thats the plan, but a long way to go and lots of hard work to do!

        1. 1

Awesome! Curious if you built all these tools from scratch or pieces together multiple open source projects?

          1. 1

Its a mix of both. The app icon resizer was build from scratch recently. Some of them are based on open source.

  34. 1

wunj[dot]com (still waiting for an offer to sell it haha)

  35. 1

A few that are not very short, but fairly good:

    homepod.io
    vydy.io
    photogist.com
    coderdōjō.com
    lucidly.com
    sqatter.com 🙄
    uxturd.com 💩
    smart.page

    Longest:
    blockchainbootstrap.live

  36. 1

I've got tsr.pm, which it my email domain for The Stakeholder Report, my weekly Project Management newsletter. For some reason it’s been a pain in the ass to actually forward tsr.pm to the newsletter site.

  37. 1

I used to own ae.ee. Didn't ever use it for anything and let it expire.

    1. 1

this sounds cool... so many options.

  38. 1

kwil.io - still working on designing a writing app with this one
erbo.to - no idea, just seemed cool at the time.

love domains... don't love when all my late night domain thoughts come due at renewal time :)

  39. 1

My site (that will host my course in a couple of days) Jon.IO.

My name is also Jon :)

Built with TailwindCSS, custom Pelican (Python), CD using Github

    1. 2

      i won't even lie... i'm jelly.

  40. 1

Shortest: linkto.pw (redirects to personal website)
    Longest: talenthunch.com (coming soon)

    1. 2

I like http://linkto.pw/. It would be great for password pusher type site.

      1. 1

That's a cool idea @timleland. If it ever makes it onto my idea list then at least I won't have to buy another domain for it haha.

    2. 1

talenthunch is neat. what was that about?

      1. 1

Thanks for your interest @8bit. TalentHunch is currently a placeholder for any job search/recruitment startup ideas that I get. It's been around for about 7 years, but I've never managed to come up with an MVP that's different enough from other products to make an impact (and sales). I'm currently exploring how I can use machine learning and AI to better shortlist candidates and reduce bias. One day it won't just be a coming soon page ;)

        1. 2

i think you could validate a lightweight product or even via a landing page here on IH! start a new project and post a question...

... seriously. crazier things have happened. lmk how i can help.

  41. 1

    assman.io 😬

I might use it for my “asset management in the cloud” side project 😉

  42. 1

sipp.dev - landing page for a TypeScript web framework I'm working on.

  43. 1

a-b.io - nothing now, but was thinking about something related to a/b testing
    rede.io - personal blog
viet.io - organizing Vietnam tech ecosystem
    descartescreations.com - company website

  44. 1

I owed i.london for 36 hours few years ago.
The registrar which I bought it from accidentally sold it even though the authority of .london does not allow single letter domains.
After 36 hours I got an email that the deal is cancelled due to this rule.

  45. 1

Pro tip: if you use a symbol in your domain its likely available and you can get it for crazy cheap...

I registered bén.com last year for like $12 just for laughs
(Its expired and up for grabs now)

    1. 2

I did not know this. How annoying that is though, right? Would people actually ever use a symbol? 🤣

      1. 1

I had the same thought as well.

    1. 1

      Looks like it's down.

  46. 1

Short -> larynx.io [Abandoned product from previous startup]

    Long -> AbishekMuthian.com [Personal blog]

Other domains come in between those!

    1. 1

      yeeees. this is cool. keeg.in/trouble

  47. 1

Coulf.com (whose landing page is at join.coulf.com)
    Sleia.com (my upcoming secret project)
Crovl.com (soon to be a failing app project)

Edit: longest one is typeyourname.com - a cool fun project I'm building. This btw is the first time I'm sharing it ;)

    1. 1

I absolutely cannot believe my first sale for typeyourname.com came from here! (!!!!)

  48. 1

Hey! I own aim.vc . I also have q3.ro which is shorter, but the .ro extension is not as popular :)

    1. 1

      whoa, that's legit. i like aim.vc a lot.

    2. 1

aim.vc is a good one. Does it have a meaning?

      1. 1

thanks! no, I am not using it for anything yet.
