Where is the best place to look for an expert iOS ninja?

We are a small startup in the commercial aviation industry with an iOS app, currently in the phase of moving from Objective-C to swift and would like to hire a remote expert iOS developer for a long term project.

Where is the best place to look for such developers? upwork is full of developers and I had misses and hits over there in the past. Any other places worth looking at ? Any such Ninjas here ?

I'd avoiding looking for "ninjas", "gurus" or "wizards". "Rock stars" as well.

I don't know about ninjas but if you're looking for a developer then Linkedin is a good place to look for.
Send a short message, don't use recruiter jargon and keep it honest with what you're looking for.

Anyone who calls themselves a "ninja" is usually a "diva"

Just curious, why are you moving to swift?

    1. 1

What I understand is ObjC is history and swift is the future, most developers and companies develop in swift as I understand. So I guess in the long term it would be a good direction.

hmmm this is not a good reason, and it depends where you are product wise. Software history is full of dead companies who rewrite their core software with shiny new thing. If you have few customers or very few business logic then it does not matter.

    StackOverflow Careers,
iOS dev jobs (you can post for free it’s from the iOS dev weekly newsletter),
    TopTal,
    All these remote job boards

IMO most devs don’t like LinkedIn as much as eg stackoverflow careers, but that’s limited to my personal network.

Source: I’m a iOS dev with remote work experience. 😉

So i have been bombarded with Agencies from Ukraine and India following this post, not sure I want to work with an agency, they tend to get the good devs to the front for securing the job and then put some rookie to actually do the job no ?

Just like anything there’s good and bad agencies. I wouldn’t reject everything. I’m German and have some friends in Belarus and Ukraine. There’s definitely some talent there. And the local price level makes it more affordable. In the end communication and project management is not easy and it depends on both sides. That’s where problems usually start at least from my own experience. This applies to all remote devs and agencies worldwide.

You have a bit misconception about the work of agencies from Ukraine :) check out their reviews and you'll get the whole picture of the team and their approach to products development.

Hi, I haven't used this before but I head about it a lot of times: https://www.toptal.com/ the pricing there might be a little bit higher tho. Hope it helps :)
