Who has started something new this month?

Have you started working on or launched something new?

Share it in this thread for the chance to show it off and get feedback!

  1. 4

Yes! My girlfriend and I are started building a SaaS together. Unfortunately we aren't launching until tomorrow, so nothing to share today. However, I'm very excited to share it all with you tomorrow!

    1. 5

Congratulations. If you need support with your first 100 users, try here: http://bit.ly/first100users

Wow, this amount of useful information is insane! Thank you so much, Oliver :)

        1. 1

No worries, any questions please let me know.

      2. 1

love it, has this been online for a while? I'm just going to share it in what I've "launched" this month (see comment in this thread https://www.indiehackers.com/post/who-has-started-something-new-this-month-96984c84e7?commentId=-LyJ7SAJMpI8asmaemxL) :)

I launched IdeasDrop 11 days ago

https://www.ideasdrop.com – A social community for sharing and validating new ideas.

    🥳 30 members (+9 since yesterday)
➕ Adding in a change-log/ features page (keep members updated on the roadmap)
🔍 Investigating other platforms to promote (Reddit, Hacker News etc)
    🖤 Create an ambassador program

      Hey

This is cool, but it suffers for being a maker project for makers, where the only registered users are other makers.

Where this gets more interesting is if you could find panels in other area - new mums, bakers, walkers, tech enthusiasts, networkers, single people etc. People can then validate their ideas with their actual user persona, outside of the maker-for-makers bubble.

Also, congrats on the Product Hunt placement. How much traffic did that send?

      @daviddel

      1. 1

Hey Olly, thanks for the great feedback.

To be honest the members are from a wide background - finance, tech, spray paint artist, education, fitness etc so there is definitely not a maker bubble.

Traffic is always good on the first day but trickles down after that, it's important to try ride that wave for as long as possible.

My buddy and I launched our first ever product alpha yesterday. We built the MVP in 5 days:
    https://www.actionspanel.app

It's a way for you to manually trigger GitHub Actions. A feature that feels really obvious but they haven't done yet. It's free to use and we'd love some feedback. We've never done this before so we're just trying to get feedback as early as possible to help steer what we need to do next.

    1. 1

If it's free could you open source it? That might be a good way also to build up some following via github/lab.

  4. 1

I know I'm late to the party, but also I haven't really launched more than the absolute MVP: a newsletter based on Ghost as the CMS with "making and money" as the content https://makeandmoney.com. :)

  5. 1

Yes, working on geocaching like app with QR codes and AR. Anyone have any thoughts or ideas about this?

  6. 1

    Hi.
Not from this month, but we've started the nocode platform which is very competitive with other existing solutions.
It allows you to create the database, arrange the communication between participants, automate workflows by scenarios and show your data public or restricted.
    The link is https://tabbli.com

I am reading 24 non-fiction books this years. Started with "SMARTCUTS" by Shane Snow. Great read and well on track.

I am currently excited to be working on Devolio - a social community for devs

  9. 1

Started working on my startup (building out business plan, filing to incorporate, coding).

(Of course because that's big and scary it's also been a tremendously productive month for every other thing I can find to distract me from working on that!

    1. Launched a homepage for my photography sidehobby.
    2. Started going to the gym again
    3. Working on my first month of blog articles

So yeah... tips for how to focus on the Big Scary Thing over small tasks always welcome.)

    1. 1

Why are you working on things like incorporation at this point? Have you already validated and have users waiting?

      1. 1

But of course! Been reading IndieHackers long enough to at least know to validate. Plus this is a "solve your own problem" in the B2B SaaS space, so I have a lot more faith in its ROI in market beyond the 4 "yeah I will buy that today" bites I had than I would with any of my "cool consumer app" ideas.

As for "why am I working on things...", that's exactly the problem! I'm working on things like incorporation to procrastinate, hence my request for how people stop themselves from procrastinating! :)

  10. 1

Yep, we started working on a no-code app development platform for Shopify store merchants. It's not ready just yet, but excited to share it once it is! If you're curious, feel free to check it out here: https://merchantbench.com/development-platform

My brother and I have just launched SliceWP, an affiliate program manager for WordPress, after one year of development. Yes, I know, one year, crazy!

If you'd like to hit us with some feedback, be it positive or negative, please go crazy. Here's our landing page: https://slicewp.com/

    Thank you!

    1. 2

I think you might want more explaining. You mentioned it brings you easy to use marketing tools, but I don't really see what those are anywhere on the page. Maybe a workflow of how it works and what it brings to the table. Also how is it different than other solutions?

      1. 1

That's a very good take! Thank you for taking the time to take a look and analyze our landing page.

A workflow of how everything works would be a great addition. We are currently working on adding a demo site, where visitors can test the plugin out on a fresh WordPress installation. This should be out next week and I believe it will be a great way for users to play around with the plugin.

We also want to add a walkthrough video on the landing page, but that's not going to be available for another few weeks.

  12. 1

Working on setting up my blog today at https://codeoftheprogrammer.com/ . It's terrible now, but I'll make it better little by little. ;)

    1. 2

Is this just for yourself/others or do you want it to lead somewhere?

      1. 1

It's just a place for me to write about my work and life as an indie Software Developer. I don't think it'll be anything more than that.

  13. 1

Yeah I started https://productpanda.io - A product management tool that helps small teams to translate raw ideas into actionable plans that everyone in your team understands.

    1. 2

Do you have any basic mockups you could provide? Have each section go with some image would be much more helpful for visual people like myself.

      1. 1

        Good point.
I have added a basic mockup to the page. More to come as I layout more features.

  14. 1

Yes! It’s a new platform but not ready for release yet. I will definitely release on IH straight away once it’s ready.

  15. 1

I started blogging for Monitoro. It's pretty bare for the time being and it sucks SEO wise, but my goal this month is to shape it up, fatten it and make it much more palatable for search engines!

    1. 1

What do you plan to do SEO wise? A product I'm going to be working on will definitely require SEO and want to see what you had planned.

      1. 2
        1. Improve the on-site SEO rating of my website (performance, tuning meta tags, mobile friendliness etc)
        2. Analyze the keyword landscape and the existing content + who's linking to it
        • What are the common keywords used in my product's space? Rank and sort and collect a long tail as well
        • How competitive are these keywords? See which (used) keywords competitors, blog posts and general articles on the internet are ranking for
        • Map these keywords into a content strategy: Which keywords can I target in which way (blog post, landing page, sponsored placements etc)
        1. Build a solid content base based on the previous analysis and have it all available at the website's own domain (no subdomains). It will contain:
        • Documentation of the product
        • A blog with tutorials, industry comparison as well as product announcements and technical discussions
        • Dedicated landing pages for all the services that Monitoro is compatible with (taknig a page of Zapier's book) - won't be exhaustive but will grow over time
        1. Again based on #2, reach out to existing bloggers and influencers in this space who are linking to similar content and nudge them to include mine
        2. Throughout this entire process, keep track of how and what you're ranking for and what people are looking for using https://search.google.com

There are some more exotic strategies I'm considering such as piggybacking on marketplaces but that's for later.

Also my process is not entirely sequential, it's a bit of a mess in practice but roughly it corresponds to what I described.

        Hope it's useful :)

        1. 1

          Great reply. Thanks for sharing.

  16. 1

I've started simple website collecting Google Maps lists with useful places (currently only Speciality Coffee): https://pinezki.com/
That's my way of travel -- I use Google Maps pins to move around the city and save best spots (food/coffee mostly) to visit and I think more people could benefit from curated lists like that.

I plan to add: Laptop Friendly places, Breakfast places and lunch places -- those I use the most often during my travels. And of course, more cities :)

Open for suggestions or maybe similar lists? 🙏

  17. 1

We've been open for a bit, but our 'official' launch was 1/1/20 :) We help global entrepreneurs register their company in the US, and we built it so that you can even do it from your phone!

    https://blook.io.

    1. 1

Do you have any customer testimonials you could add? I think with something like this I would like to hear from real people how it worked for them.

      1. 1

Good call! We have several on Trustpilot, I was actually thinking of using their snippet to add the testimonials to the site, but regardless going to add it to the To-dos.

        Thanks!

  18. 1

I’m currently redesigning my personal website. The aim is to turn my personal website to be blog-focused site. Hope it would be finished soon.

  19. 1

Nothing to share yet, but we've started developing new tool for e-commerces!

  20. 1

Yesterday I launched ShareNewsletters.com, a community for sharing and discovering newsletters.

After I created my first Newsletter, I realised how hard was to grow it. There weren't many places to launch a newsletter in the same way we normally launch web or mobile apps.
The objective of ShareNewsletters.com is to change this. The app is still missing many features, but I will be adding them during the next weeks.

Feel free to submit your own newsletter 🚀

    1. 2

You should introduce a clear and bold Submit Newsletter CTA - I presume it's after joining.

You should add people and reach out to them to let them know, this can form the first stage in your outbound marketing.

      1. 1

Many thanks for the feedback, I will add the CTA and start cold emailing :)

        1. 1

Let me know when done :D

  21. 1

We are starting to work on a re-design of Battle Tabs to add more depth to it. In the last few weeks we've been through huge ups and downs on the project, and after hosting over 30,000 matches, I think we have a pretty good idea where we want to take it next — exciting to get back to making games ;-)

    1. 2

This is brilliant! I have just added it to Chrome. It looks great and based on this I can't wait to see the redesign.

  22. 1

We're moving hard on Cinch, https://acinch.co A simple writing platform for when you just want to write. We'll be in beta next month, and launch in MArch.

    1. 1

Are you focused on the compose experience? Or more about audience and discovery?

  23. 1

I started a pre-order page on gumroad for my upcoming ebook on the basics of AI: https://gum.co/SXpw/alanturing. Demystifying AI is a non-technical book aimed at everybody that wants to understand why AI is the new electricity. Any feedback is appreciated!

  24. 1

I've launched a beta MVP yesterday. It's a project to help people handle forms.

You could keep the titles ugly and make the body a more readable font. This would help a lot IMO.

                1. 1

That is so much better! Now I might be a total mad lad for suggesting this.. but try changing the fonts on the buttons too. I think this would create a better contrast in your hero section.

            2. 1

              Agree, the copy is great.

The font does make it hard to scan quickly and read in-depth once you're hooked, and will likely impact conversion.

I also think you need to make this more niche and focus different landing page variations on different outcomes and personas that resonate more.

Although I loved the copy, it didn't resonate with me because I had to scan my brain for what outcome I could get from the service. It would be much easier if you explicitly told me examples of what the outcomes could be.

I would also experiment with the price points. You could do a $1 campaign which is focused on driving referral after a good experience. You could also consider higher pricing if you can generate testimonials to demonstrate value.

Does it replace counselling? Augment self reflection? What is it? All the creative-writing in the world can't hide that you don't explicitly say.

              1. 1

                1. 1

I think it's massive improvement and the plain font makes the text more readable.

I think the concise line could be

                  • Life coaching for weirdos
                  • Life coaching for everyone else
                  • A life coaching alternative
                  • Life coaching without the stuffy office
                  • Modern life coaching
                  • A life coaching alternative for insecure people
                  • Life coaching. Kind of.
                  • Life coaching that doesn't suck.

I think with a distinct headline like the one you suggested, I would look for it to be followed with a really strong and tonally consistent testimonial ie a bit crazy.

I do think the 'how' element is good, and I like that you've included 'show don't tell' by allowing me to start for free without logging in so I can see what the service looks like, not just be told. I think Point 3 might be pushing your luck in terms of being radically upfront as knowing I am going to be sold too later, even when done stylishly, is a but much. This could be focused on 'enjoy your new life' type copy.

I think you can add more clarity by giving some examples of personas who might use the service. I presume the 'feel shit about yourself' bit is a moment of self reflection, and that's core to any life coaching journey (a guess). Maybe share 4 examples of how people use it. Example

22% of people are struggling with a major life change
46% think their career is meh not marvellous
                  etc etc

Ah just read this comment too, looks like we're on the same page here.

Before you write any more courses, just focus on getting people through the existing course, refining it, and getting to a point where word of mouth is pushing people into your sales funnel. Then you can upsell.
