I see a lot of people who do info products and SaaS share their numbers willy nilly but I still haven't seen any freelancer share their numbers unless it's to build reputation by showing people how much they charge.
What's stopping you from sharing your numbers?
I'm asking because I plan to make a newsletter where I share updates on my journey from $5/hour Upwork slave to $100/hour consultant.
A lot of people building info products are sharing numbers because potential customers and people interested in revenue numbers are the same niche (marketers, startup founders, etc). If you're a freelancer doing client work it's much less likely that clients will care about your numbers. Not saying it's a bad idea, there's just less incentive to do so.
Pretty much what @Gabe said. On top of that, it's rather easy to make rough estimates on what a freelancer is making based on their hourly rate, which they do usually share with anyone who asks.
I'm from upwork. I started out on Elance.com. Within a month started to rank 1 for Growth, Growth hacker keywords. I started out on $5 an hour, then increase my hourly rate to 30 dollars an hour. Then odesk and elance merged together. Now I have profile there, but not taking much clients from there. Because we are getting clients from referral and LinkedIn connections. I'm charging $100 for consulting and $700/mo for local seo clients, saas clients $1250/mo for content marketing and SEO. Agency doing $125k profit, which we are invest ing back to saas. SAAS is also profitable right now
Well, I think that finding out a freelancer's hourly rate is pretty easy on the Internet. For example, I'm on Upwork and a Malt, so you just have to look me up there to see that I charge 30$/hour on Upwork & 290€ / a day on Malt.
Might be because many are contracting for a single company and the rate is not to be disclosed.
