Why did you join Indie Hackers & has it lived up to your expectations?

Hey,

I'm from Stellenbosch, South Africa - a place with no startup culture. I joined Indie Hackers to be part of a community to discuss & get feedback on my projects and ideas. I found a great community, with makers ready to help each other out.

Why did you join Indie Hackers & has it lived up to your expectations?

Cheers,

I joined to share what I'm working on / support others doing the same.

It has definitely lived up to being that community for me so far. I do have this problem though, where I get stuck reading post after post and diluting my own opinions sometimes. (Which is totally on me)

Stellenbosch!?! What a place. Very fond memories of my trip there a few years ago.

I joined Indie Hackers to be part of a community of like minded builders who want to create new things. I also want to share my learnings as I build Startup Sanctuary and help as many others as possible. I think the Indie Hackers community has a great ability to share insights and help one another learn.

I think it is the community that makes it great. I think there is a shared understanding that trying to start a business is extremely difficult, especially as an 'Indie Hacker' or a solopreneur. This shared understanding allows people to contribute stories and experiences with one another in a way that is helpful and empathetic to the fact that this shit is hard.

Those here who have gained 'success' understand how hard it can be to get to that point. They are happy to share insights and knowledge that they wish they had when they were starting out.

I'm here to be inspired by others who are on their own journey. It's good because whatever your position you can find people who are just a few steps ahead - these are the people you can learn the most from IMO.

I joined because my website is targeted towards entrepreneurs, so it means my customers are here, but I also joined to improve my skills and learn things in the areas I am deficient in.
Edit: hello from America, I am a former South African :)

I joined because it's hard to find people to collaborate as a high school student. I want to create products that people actually use.
