Why so many "link" only posts on IH?

Is this too hard to write here or are people just looking for click juice?

It might be controversial, but I found it disappointing when I received a bunch of these posts from the IH Daily digest via email.

Interesting title -> click -> link -> send me to another blog or site

These posts usually have 0 upvotes and 0 comments, no engagement at all. I don't want to see them from the digest.

sounds like an easy fix. Could be added as an option in digest settings. Im voting yes

    1. 3

Voting yes as well. Otherwise my interim solution would be unsubscribing from the digest.

I’ve complained about this multiple times. The leadership of IH has openly stated that whilst everyone (including the leadership team) acknowledges most link posts are low quality, they are somehow at the same time, the future of the site as they drive engagement.

    1. 5

Just read your post posted earlier @Primer

"Link posts are pretty necessary for IH's future, as they're the easiest way to contribute. But I agree they're often low in quality." from Allen

Gosh... I can see a lot of contradiction here.

      1. 3

yeah to me it reads "We know these are rubbish, but that's the future of the site".

        Doesn't make any sense.

      2. 1

@Primer was this the specific quote from leadership you refer to expressing it's the future? If not, do you have a link I can read? Also @felix12777 do you have a link containing the quote I can read?

        1. 1

The exact quote is in the comment that you're replying to by felix12777. I'll copy it again for you:

          1. 1

Can you link to the page that contained this quote?

            1. 2

It’s also under the channel “Meta”, post created by Primer

I'm with you! It's really annoying with the problem has been discovered but no solution and we're forced to see these posts.

  3. 5

Totally agree with you on this one. It has become so difficult to find good discussions because of that.

    1. 4

Exactly. If I want to read specific blog / article, I will Google it myself. It’s really demotivating when these link farms are coming to IH.

  4. 5

These posts might get traffic to the author but it is really not helping the community support one another, because it doesn't encourage discussion.

Would love to see more knowledge exchange than just posting for traffic.

      This ☝🏻☝🏻☝🏻

Keen to know if there’s any solution from @csallen

    Rightfully so.

IHers should never reward these spammers with upvotes or comments or even clicks.

They're parasites, especially when they don't normally even engage and share insights like a normal human being.

I find it pretty annoying as well.

I joined to read posts and interesting discussions but found a lot of links instead, which is fine but I usually visit Hacker News to find those. Still, the posts that have content are interesting and something I couldn't find elsewhere.

For my first post (as soon as IH lets me post it) I planned to copy and modify one of my blog posts to be able to discuss it on this platform.

I agree with the sentiments shared by the author & respondents in this post.

I've been dipping in & out of IH for a couple of years now, and I feel that - whilst the place has got "bigger" and more open (anyone can have a group) and "mainstream", the quality of conversations has lessened and the intimacy feels less. Part of this is inevitable as a community scales (and with the resources/limitations of the team), but I do feel it's a shame that the community-piece doesn't feel as strong as it could be. I feel there is a lot more potential for what IH could be, IMHO. Just expressing my 2 cents.

Also find it annoying, I joined this community because of the discussions and feedback and learning from each other.

As a just dipping my toes entrepeneur, I launched my first product before I joined IH.

I wish I launched after that, so much tips and tricks that you can learn from this community, please keep the discussions going and not the quick link post.

I've only been posting text so are you telling me I've been doing it wrong all this time 😵
