Why you should consider Paddle for your SaaS billing

I've made a new post on my blog to detail our initial thoughts of using Paddle for your subscription billing. Highly recommend them if you are looking for a company to handle local taxes for you. Has anyone on IH used them already?

For some of us in the EU, things are somewhat more difficult. Most companies that claim to "solve billing and invoicing" actually do not, because they are not compliant with local regulations.

My particular example: Poland — which has the advantage of very low taxation, but the disadvantage of rather strict invoicing and VAT reporting rules (SAF-T standard, which is locally called JPK). I know of no billing/invoicing solution that is compliant. I am having some hopes for Stripe, if they get around to it some day.

So, while I haven't checked what Paddle does in detail, I can venture an educated guess that they will not generate my JPK-FA (SAF-T) reports from invoices issued.

It's great to know other polish indie hacker are here. I use Paddle for my startup and it works great for me.

One thing to highlight is that they are a reseller so they appear on the customers' invoices. Then once a month they pay you in a single invoice.

For polish speakers, I described this in details on my blog some time ago: https://roombelt.com/post/dzialalnosc-nierejestrowana-i-paddle-czyli-jak-legalnie-zarabiac-pierwsze-pieniadze-w-internecie-bez-zakladania-firmy

Hey @jwr it's worth reaching out the them to see if they do. I understand it might not work for everyone, but for me at least in the UK, it seems like the perfect solution. Best of luck!

I have used paddle.. but now switched to stripe for my next product.. Paddle is awesome the main downside for me its not while Label.. for me I can consider tax hassles for white labeling . This is my personal thought

That's fair enough! I guess they are limited with white label when they operate as Merchant of Record.

    Thanks for the article!
First got to know about Paddle when I heard about Plausible.io

Found out about it digging through their open-source repo

I think I’m going to try it out over Stripe for https://decent.social

Hey @cridev - that's cool! Their API is fairly accessible. Definitely give it a trial run!

Is the following true? Part of Paddle's pitch is they file taxes in remote countries for you. Before traction you are likely to be under those countries tax thresholds anyway so should have no tax to file. In this situation using Paddle costs you more than the headline rate.

Or not under their jurisdiction at all, meaning you have no responsibilities to collect taxes in the first place?
