[WIP] majorable - Find study programs

Hi there,

I am building www.majorable.com with an intention to help people decide what to study at college/university.

When I was choosing a study program back in 2003 I struggled to find legitimate information about different study programs offered by various universities. I ended up studying a field which wasn't a good fit and after many years made a career change when I was 30 years old. I am a happy software developer since then.

Nowadays there is quite good general information about study programs on the internet but it's still difficult to find accurate answers for specific questions. With this in mind, I am building majorable, where one can

  • find general information about study programs, such as list of universities offering the program
  • ask questions (like quora), but you can filter answers by the author category such as 'student', 'alumni' etc of the program
  • Post/read comments
  • Explore similar programs
  • Bookmark programs

I am building this on my free time as a side-project, so it's going slow. But I am happy with where it's going. I would appreciate the feedback. You can visit the app at www.majorable.com

MVP features are there, but probably there are some (or many) bugs. Landing page is in the todo list. It's not really optimized for mobile. And for content, as a start, I only added universities from the Netherlands. I choose Netherlands because it's a small country and there are not as many universities, say as USA, so less work for me. If I see an interest in the product I will start adding universities from other countries.

Since I don't have users in production, I am adding some screenshots from dev environment to give an idea about features. Thank you so much for feedback!

Looks good, is an interesting idea.
I would take a step back and organize them from something broader like "social", "quant" and so on... sorry, perhaps these terms aren't correct since I'm not an english native speaker.
Also, I believe the true benefit would be to stress the differences between taking the same program but in different universities... pros & cons...
    Best of luck with that!

Thank you very much for your feedback. I appreciate it very much.

Regarding "organize them from something broader ", I like that. Currently, in the app each major belongs to a broad study field, which is at the bottom of the page. For example, in the European Studies major, it says "European Studies
is in the field Interdisciplinary studies" and also lists other programs in that field. To add more visibility I am thinking to show a list of those broader fields in a separate page and link it at the landing page.

"stress the differences between taking the same program but in different universities". This would be great, but I am afraid I don't know where to gather data about it. Maybe I can check the classes they offer or the infrastructure of the universities. If you have some recommendation on that please let me know.

Thank you again for your feedback.

Maybe you could reach out to some alumni groups of each university, or even through LInkedin. That requires some time and lots of cold messaging probably.
        Cheers,
