Would you pay for an SEO back-link from a site with a lot of traffic?

Hey, a friend of mine was offered to have hes service linked as a resource
in a blog with significant amount of traffic for a one time fee.
It will definitely help hes SEO rankings and probably generate some traffic.

Sounds like an interesting offer...
Have anyone ever encountered such a phenomena?
How would you go and evaluate how much such a fee should be?

My personal thoughts were that he should pay the blog owner retroactively each month for the amount of traffic that the link generated

Paid links are against Google guidelines and could get your friend's website penalized. Serious blogs don't sells links.

Agreed -- a more natural way to do this is to have some promotional content marketing like a podcast interview or paid guest blog posts. It accomplishes the same thing and ideally actually adds something of value instead of just a link.

It’s a little unfortunate, but it’s how a lot of those blogs and list articles function. No one talks about it, but if you reach out for backlinks, etc it’s common(ish) practice. I’ve reached out to sites before only to get a quote back. $100s/mo to be on a list or article per month is regular practice... and probably the low end.

It’s a little bit of a double standard imho. crowd and Capterra profit heavily off of very similar things and aren’t considered against the rules. A paid link is a paid link.

Better to spend the money to try to build your own seo and content marketing rather than buy. Or go another paid route that can’t be shut down. It’s the long game...

I've seen a few one-off offerings like this on the SaaS growth hacking FB group, but I'm not aware of any services that do this on the regular.

It definitely sounds like an interesting experiment if you have the $
