Would you raise funds from your community on your own website?

Brewdog and Monzo have continuously raised $100M+ from their communities on their way to unicorn-status but their methods do not always benefit their backers (lack of transparency and liquidity mainly).

I’ve been helping 30+ startups raise capital from VCs this year and it's a slog. Instead, a buddy and I have come up with a way for founders to easily raise capital directly from their community via an ‘Invest Now’ CTA on their website.

Our (invalidated) hunch is this would be perfect for bootstrapped founders to gain product 'stickiness’ over the long term by letting their community share in the upside of their business.

Is there any reason why wouldn’t want to do this?

wouldn't the customer want downside protection? this would effectively be recreating something like angellist?
