Would you use AppSumo or similar services to grow your SaaS?

Hi,

AppSumo can bring a lot of users and revenue to your company as they have a huge user base but they also take a lot of that revenue for themselves (around 70% from what we know) so I'm interested, would you use it and what results do you expect? And if not, what's holding you back?

Would you use AppSumo or similar services for your SaaS?
  1. Yes, it's a great way to get new customers
  2. Yes, I would use them if they wouldn't take so much of my revenue
  3. No, I prefer to offer deals to my customers without using 3rd party services
  4. No, my SaaS is reasonably priced and I don't want to offer any deals
  5. Something else... please share bellow

    Hi Chris,
I noticed that usually people will make a special package exclusively for AppSummo.

For example, your monthly subscription is $99/month, you propose them $75 lifetime (or any other subscription) with let's say double the freemium resources a month.

I bought a few deals for non-critical apps that I wanted to use freely and not worry about the monthly expenses.

      Hi,
yes, you are right about lifetime deals and buyers usually do get a good deal, but what I'm interested, would you use it from the other side, as an indie creator, and would you offer a deal on your own SaaS on such platforms?

Right, I haven't launched my saas, yet.

But like I mentioned, I would use AppSumo so that it does not hurt my sales. I don't want to solely depend on it and go dirt cheap. Better have special exclusive to Appsumo deals that are very different from your main subscription plans/prices. Consider it an introduction plan, with the plans to convert them to premium plans in the future.

So, IMHO, having AppSumo deals won't hurt if you use them wisely. On the contrary, it might really boost your sales.

This is very insightful response, thank you.

Your existing users might google deals for your product and cancel their subscription/pass on upgrading to a subscription if they come across your AppSumo lifetime deal, so it does hurt your MRR a bit.

But I always say, what really matters is the dollar amount that's hitting your bank account at the end of every month.

As long as it's up and up, MRR growth or not, you're doing well for yourself.

Lifetime deals allow you to capture all revenue upfront, so you can invest in growth and development, and, if your revenue is greater than LTV of your average SaaS user, you should be good to go.
