WP static site generation - would you be interested in this?

Hi all,

I'm looking for some feedback on an idea I'm playing with just for myself, and I'm guessing others might be interested. But it's a guess, so it would be great to get some feedback.

We all know Wordpress is popular. And it can be very slow.

So there are a few plugins that allow to have a private WP site (eg, cms.domain.com) to manage the content (including plugins like Elementor or Divi for more stylish content), and then convert the WP content to static content and upload to your public site on a static host (www.domain.com) or provide the static site in a ZIP for you to process manually.

The service I'm creating does the same, with a couple of pain points removed:

  1. You won't need to sit around staring at the WP dashboard for ages while the plugin scans your site and rebuilds all pages. Instead, you can go have a cup of tea or get on with something more useful while the rebuild happens. You can even close your browser and turn off your PC, and the rebuild still goes ahead.

  2. It rebuilds only the minimal amount required, but that will also include other pages that link to the new/changed page. If you change the theme, you can trigger a full rebuild of the site (again, in the background).

  3. You'll get notification of what URLs have changed, so you can manually check them.

  4. Your site will periodically get scanned to see if there are other changes that need a rebuild.

That's it really. I've got a few smaller features hanging of the above points, but they are minor enhancements.

Appreciate your thoughts on the core proposition.

    How do you handle forms?

      Hi,
At the moment, I'm not, but they'll need to go through a third-party service in the short-term, many of whom have a free tier. If I do go live with this and get customers, it'll be high on my list of things to investigate.

      Regards,
      Andy
