Write the app description yourself or have it written?

Hi,

I'm a developer, who published his pet projects into the android store / chrome web store.
I'm also not a native english speaker.

I wonder how other indiehackers handle it.

Do you write your app description yourself? Or do you pay someone (on fiverr?) to do it?

Maybe write it yourself but ask a native speaker to double check the grammar and spelling. Unless you have a good working relationship with a copy-writer you may end up with copy that doesn't accurately reflect your value position. Then again, you might get something perfect but at least writing it yourself and having someone give it a once over is a good middle ground.

Actually, I'd be happy to give your description a review if that's helpful?

Sure that would be helpful :)

You can find my chrome extension with the description here:

      I'm curious about your feedback.

Good actually. All I'd do, if it were me, is edit the first two lines into one. However, with 4000 users it obviously works as it is :-)

Add subtitles to any HTML5 video on-screen

By using +Sub, you can search and select your desired subtitle which will be displayed on the video.

This plugin supports Amazon Video, Netflix, Youtube and many more.

        Features:

        • Search your desired Movie/Series in the search window and find a suitable subtitle.

        • Load subtitles files (*.srt, *.vtt, *.ass, *.ssa) via Drag and Drop into the video.

        • Subtitle synchronizing. Is the subtitle not synchronous with the video? +Sub has the capability to show the subtitle delayed.

As a non-native English speaker myself, my advice is to learn to do it yourself, at least in the medium to long term.

This is because mastering written communication is important for creators. In addition, doing it yourself saves you time, reduces friction, and increases flexibility. For example, if you need to do some quick changes to your app listings, not having to go through someone else is a plus.

This makes sense and it's actually really hard to find people who are good at writing.

To add to this I would use things like Grammarly and maybe look for someone (consistent) who can give feedback and editing support over someone who will write it completely.

Good point about grammar and style checkers, I use ProWritingAid.

Or maybe get the text initial written by an writer and then extended by myself ?

Like you said: Mastering written communication is important.
But is also not easy to master, at least for me.

If you're at an early language learning stage, you may indeed need some copywriting or editing help.
