Think a lot. Write a lot (in private). Publish little.
Writing is the primary tool for asynchronous communication. Period.
Two forms of writing,
public - writing to audience (newsletters, blogs, twitter, books)
private - writing to self (morning pages, evernote, notion, roam research)
There are 3 types of writers,
Consumer - He reads a lot, loves to write, but is waiting for that right idea, maybe completing a course on how to write, following writers on twitter, waiting to build his perfect blog, translates to 0 audience
Beginner - She started her blog and newsletter, has a twitter following, although a small audience, there are fans for her writing. She’s trying to figure out how to increase her metrics and how to best serve her audience.
Pro - He’s been writing for quite sometime now. His writing has helped a good number of people. He has lots of fans, who can pay to see more of his writing.
Writer's Algorithm
Every writer has 3 attributes to consider for optimal audience building -
N pub = # Number of articles published
N aud = # Number of audience
T pub = Average time taken to publish each article = time to write first draft + time taken to edit/rewrite + time taken to validate
