I've been debating building in public for a while.
The main reason was that I didn't think that it would benefit my product in any way. My target users are mainly finance/consulting/MBA students, etc... and they don't really seem like the type to value building in public.
Given I'm building a Personal CRM, confidence that the data is protected and will be around for a long time is massive. I was worried that If people saw that this was just a one man operation, they would lose confidence.
However, I decided to start building in public for myself. The product is 4+ years old ($187 MRR) but better now than never!
I wish I had done it sooner just so I can look back and see what kind of progress I've made. I also think that it would have inspired me to start monetizing sooner.
I don't expect to get any customers out of doing it, but it will at least be a fun thing to document and look back on from time to time if I need some inspiration :) Hopefully it helps someone else too!
I wrote a massive Twitter thread (my first thread!) where I've posted my MRR and some backstory on the project. I'll also be posting small updates there every week (with bigger detailed stuff here on IH) Feel free to check it out if you're curious!
