Becoming a software engineer after a career in automotive industry, I quickly realised the power of Hackernews. I used to read multiple auto portals daily to stay up to date, but I was missing the community.

October 31, 2020 First newsletter is out!

The first ever weekly newsletter went out today to first 7 subscribers (3 of which is me and the rest family, friends and my gf) ;) It went surprisingly smooth apart of wishing everyone "a great week" as I originally planned on sending it out on Monday :D

The site has now also a pagination working, to get you back and forth in time and the light/dark theme preference now saves in cookie so your next visit is already pleasing your eye. Yay!

October 28, 2020 The weekly newsletter is live!

Now that the article forum is live on the homepage for almost a month, and also a little traffic finds autonews.io it started to make sense to pick the 10 most popular articles of the week, wrap them into a email and send out regularly! Yay!

If cars are your thing and want to stay informed. Feel free to subscribe here autonews.io/newsletter

I am using Firebase scheduled functions and AWS SES to send out the emails. Feel free to get in touch for any tech info ;)

October 1, 2020 Deployed first MVP live.

After finally finding a way how to implement working on this project into my daily routine. I have finally deployed the bare version of autonews.io live. There are automotive 11 portals that we cover daily, the popularity of an article increases upon a click. Commenting, user's article submitting, weekly newsletters are yet about to be added.

June 6, 2018 Came up with the idea

Becoming a software engineer at the age of 28 after having a career in automotive industry, Hackernews became my daily webpage to start a day. The fact that a page like this could be well received in automotive community never left my mind. The planning and dreaming has begun.
