This was a big turn for birtly. As we passed 7000 users I realized most of them were individuals coming to organize their daily lives rather than big teams.
Thinking about how they were using the app, I built out a notes section that can merge with task lists or be separate. Because everything in birtly organizes with both moveable regroupable sections and labels, it made for a really special experience to be able to connect the two in line. Add an emoji to quickly spot your note types in a list.
The editor itself is a fairly complete markdown editor with wysiwyg previewing. My plan next is to add app wide full text search and allow exporting.
We also made the decision to make birtly.com free for individuals and teams up to five in a single workspace (workspaces are a top level group that a set of users connects to and can hold infinite projects. People only really need more than one workspace if they’re doing client work with lots of different sets of stakeholders so this means the app is now free for most of our user base)
Made this call as an experiment to see if this shift towards individual productivity will make the growth from 7000 to 10k and beyond faster. Will be fun to see how this new incarnation is received.
