Ready-to-use logo assets for engineers & bootstrappers
Bootstrap logos is an online logo store for people with big dreams and small budgets. We provide simple, clean, and quality stock logos for people bootstrapping their business or side project.
I have had a few requests for Paypal as an option at checkout. I took the time to set up the integration and immediately had a purchase. I am hoping this encourages more purchases from customers outside the U.S.
Adding the ability for people to purchase 1 hr of design time to take the logo icons they purchase and make them more of there own. Not everyone is a designer and based on some feedback I have received this may help some people who need a little more of a hands-on approach.

I haven't been putting as much time into Bootstrap logos as it needs to be a super successful side project. Marketing is a big challenge and pushing content out there to generate traffic definitely takes time.
I have built up the SEO a little on the site which is really great.
The other thing I have noticed is that I am getting about 3x the traffic then I thought. I sat down to discover how people who were making purchases found my site. The problem is that many people using my site to make purchases aren't showing up in my Google Analytics. I looked at my servers stats provided by my host Get Flywheel, and realized that traffic was 3x higher than what Google Analytics is reporting. My assumption is I have a lot of developers using my site, and a big part of that population is using an ad blocker. So the good news is I am getting more traffic than I thought. The bad news is I don't have data on the people that are making purchases. So I can't make improvements or marketing decisions based on those pieces of missing data.
I launched Bootstrap Logos in December. Just shipping it was a huge win for me. Daydreaming and planning is fun but shipping something and putting yourself out there takes work. Shipping a project is an undertaking but the hard work for me really started when I started marketing it.
What worked for me
Switching up Pricing. I played around with pricing for a long time before I found a model that actually works well for me and my customers. When I laucnhed the pricing model I was promoting was simply too expensive for the market I was serving. I surveyed potential customers and tried a couple of models and prices before I found one that worked. If something isn't working try something new.
Mailing lists. Start collecting email. Now! When you launch a new feature or product it doesn't matter if people don't know about it. This takes work but marketing really is the biggest challenge for engineers and designers building side projects. If you are a builder you will desire to spend more time doing the thing you love rather than promoting it. If it is a passion project then that is fine. But if you want it to grow, then spend more time doing the things you think you are bad at.
Product hunt. I spent the time to prepare and play for Product Hunt. Bootstrap Logos was #4 on Product Hunt the day I launched it on PH:

This brought about 10k visitors the first day. After a couple of weeks that number definitely dropped off but I still get sales from Product Hunt referrals a couple months after I launched. Follow their advice on how to launch: https://blog.producthunt.com/how-to-launch-on-product-hunt-7c1843e06399
Nail down your pricing before you launch on Product Hunt. I waited until I had a proven pricing model before I launched. I am happy I waited.
Launching a product is hard and there will definitely be haters out there. It's tough, but you can't please everyone. For me Bootstrap Logos has been a great creative outlet and learning experience. It's a fun little side project that is earning some passive income and helping some wonderful people out.
I had my first customer purchase a logo.
I built bootstrap logos on WordPress using the Easy Digital Downloads plugin as my digital store. The site is hosted on Get Flywheel.
