People spend a lot of time on meetings brainstorming without proper procedure.

April 19, 2021 Decrease to 10 WAU

Feeling depressed by the numbers. Our post on Facebook last week got a lot of traction but it didn't end up in active users. We are now heading down and are considering pivoting if the trend continues.

We joined 100 customers in 100 days which gave some traction to the web site but it doesn't convert to room creation. Even though we launched new landing page showing the parts of the product on the page.

Our morale is quite low but I'm continuing exploring people's wants and trying to help people in different startup communities.

April 12, 2021 49 Active Users

We posted our product on Show HackerNews — zero impact. Then we went to special startup communities on Facebook. We posted to Russian YC alumni community and got some great feedback on idea and UX/UI hitting 49 active users.

Active user for us is a user who started at least one brainstorm session during target week.

March 30, 2021 Refuse 50k euros. Quit acceleration

We were working hard but remaining at our full-time jobs. This wasn't acceptable by acceleration rules.

We decided to quit and refuse 50k euros investment. For us as a team it was the only decision since we were at very fragile situation which could affect one of founder's presence in country.

This was hard. A real test for friendship between founders. But at the end we kept positive and motivated to work harder on our small side project which attracted an accelerator.

February 28, 2021 MVP done. Acceleration acceptance

We applied to Hook accelerator and after the first interview we got a question: "Can you build MVP in a week?". We had only 15% of the app done.

We answered positively. In a week we built a first working version of BrainRain. We got accepted into acceleration program.

A better scenario is hardly imaginable. 50k Euros investments at MVP stage were very promising and got us working even harder. But things were a bit more complicated. We had to find users and comply with acceleration rules.

February 5, 2020 BrainRain Idea

Finding an idea is quite simple. But as all simple things, it looks harder and counterintuitive.

Idea to build BrainRain went from the personal pain of attending timeless brainstorming sessions on Zoom. Some people never talked, some talked too much. As the result — no actionable items.

I got interested in design thinking practices and some ideas implemented there at brainstorming sessions. This resulted to our key feature — idea voting. It's not just voting for the best idea, it's considering the idea from many prospectives: ease of implementation, urgency of execution and etc.

This was the outline of the solution we want to offer with BrainRain.
