October 1, 2021 Hit 1000 User Sign Ups

We super stoked that approximately four months after we launched, we reached the awesome milestone of having 1000 users signed up to Vidds ๐ŸŽ‰

We managed to achieve this through a number of different channels and acquisition activities:

โ€“ PH launch
โ€“ Show HN
โ€“ AppSumo Marketplace
โ€“ Reddit
โ€“ SEO
โ€“ Direct Outreach

Each has had a varying level of success, but probably the most influential has been AppSumo which has brought us over 150 paying users.

Now we start going after MRR - we plan to work a lot with cold outreach over the coming weeks and double down on our seo efforts. Plus we'll be building more spin-off tools to launch on PH and generate backlinks :)

October 10, 2020 Relaunch complete - Vidds.co!

We've been working a ton on Brisa Videos, and I'm excited to say we're about to relaunch as https://vidds.co!

Ed identified a number of weak spots in the app, like video embeds, and pushed me to improve the UI and UX so it's now much easier to use (with plenty more in store).

September 1, 2020 Found a Co-Founder

I've been struggling with developing the app and trying to promote it for a long time. Through a completely random interaction on IndieHackers, I managed to connect with Ed, who is now a co-founder!

It's such a great connection because he's already in the video space, and he has marketing experience. From our initial discussions, he's already given the app (and myself haha) a new sense of direction. Pretty excited for what's in store!

April 13, 2020 Launched Shopify App

I created an app specifically designed for Shopify stores, and it was approved today!
https://apps.shopify.com/brisa-videos

Unlike the first version of my app, this version uses a template approach, which made it way easier to create a usable video.

I plan to make a general release later that anyone can use, but Shopify seemed like a good start because sales/marketing is hard, and having a specific group to focus on (eCommerce shop owners) makes it a bit easier to reach out directly to people who would benefit.

Also, launching during the COVID lockdown might not be the best timing :-P

January 13, 2020 Soft Launched

Finally took the time to start showing off Brisa Videos. Submitted to BetaList (wasn't accepted), ShowHN, and IndieHackers.

Got about 100 visitors from showing it off, 3 signups (it's free until you want to generate a video).

Was hoping to get more feedback. Very little so far.

December 15, 2019 Finished MVP

I was able to get a working prototype of Brisa Videos in about a week - a really bad UI to add elements, clicking to create animations and change styles by typing in CSS values.

Then integrated it with AnimeJS so animations could be played back. Last, used the SVG-to-Canvas method to create images of each frame.

After I got that working, I spent a couple months building a backend and converting to a backend renderer. Implemented a Stripe payment system for the first time for my own app, and enabled signups!

October 1, 2019 Came up with idea

I'd been creating a lot of videos and felt pretty limited by kdenlive. I thought using the browser, css and JavaScript could make for nice videos.

Looked into the possibilities and found AnimeJS, SVG to canvas for building frames, and I think I have the UI skills to build a prototype.
