Best user feedback ever!

"CallTap is my top choice for recording interviews for academic research. Their privacy policy is extensive and more than adequately protects the confidential information of research participants. After reading through policies of more than 20 other apps, CallTap stood out as the only app that would easily meet my university's ethical standards for academic research using phone interview recordings. Additionally, the automatic transcription saved our research team countless hours."

This nugget came during a user interview. Of course I immediately asked for their permission use it as a testimonial on https://calltap.app

Isn't it more like a praise rather than feedback? When I think about feedback, I think about giving insights on a thing from which you can come up with improvements.
But nonetheless, congrats for the satisfied users!

In the US, different states have different laws about recording with consent. In some states only one party has to know the conversation is being recorded ("one-consent").

Just an idea, you might consider adding a meta tag that records the geo location of the person recording the call. It could be beneficial if they need to prove where they were at some point.

Not sure what your user's primary use cases are and if this would be helpful for some people or not.

Came here to say the same thing! Could end up being sued!

      1. 1

That’s a good idea indeed. My understanding is that the user is responsible for any legal implications though. When a recording starts, the app informs the user to “inform all participants that this call is being recorded”.

        1. 2

Yah, I don't think you have any legal exposure (I'm not a lawyer) just being the person who made the tool.

But some people may choose your recorder over another recorder if they know they have the peace of mind of being able to prove they were in a US state that made it legal to record the conversation at the time they made the recording. My comment wasn't a warning to you, but a feature idea to set you apart from others recorders.

To set yourself apart talk to lawyers, journalists, and detectives. See if they would find other metadata attached to the recording useful; ex. picture, signature, GPS data, whatever.

When the person gave you the review about the academic research, what else did you find out from them? Did they want other features that would be helpful? Transcriptions into other languages? Time and date? Phone numbers of callers? Auto audio enhancement? Simple text input to capture notes or bio of the other party?

You may have some of those already, I'm only riffing ideas I think a researcher might need. For the benefit of you and anyone else who reads this, I'm primarily trying to make the point that you have to remember to get feedback from everyone (perhaps you did). At times we bask in the glow of a good review and forget to ask for feedback to make a happy customer even happier.

My advice is to always be careful: I would not say he is safe! Always ask a areal lawyer first!

          2. 1

Yes this is super helpful. Thanks.

There is a typo on your Articles page - "How to record a calls on iPhone." People notice typos and it damages your brand's credibility.

Feedback to be proud of, for certain. Shameless plug, but if you’re looking for a way to regularly connect with users, I’d invite you to demo my other IH project FeatureFocused.io!

Wow...your logo and the Farnam Street logo are eerily close!

(not a judgment, accusation, warning, or any other criticism. just an observation that hit me like a brick.)

Since I mentioned it, it's a phenomenal website for generally being a more intelligent person. Highly recommend.

Hey! Yes you’re right! But that was completely random - I was playing off the “function” f, and thought about another variant with two ffs in a row with a single horizontal line connecting them. Also, I love the orange, used it with my other projects, too. Will def get on that mailing list, though. Any landing page feedback?

        1. 1

Sure! For the record, the site is good, but I'm going to be picky for the sake of improvement.

          1. I didn't click on "Articles" the first time I visited the site, because I'm not interested in reading random articles that relate to your product (what I assumed would be there). However, I did click this time to give feedback. Looks more like "Use Cases" which I might have clicked on to see if it was something I could use. Maybe rename it? (I'm an n=1...so I'd a/b test it). That being said, driving traffic to that page might not be your goal as much as conversion, so measure the correct outcome (whatever you deem important).

          2. "Best iPhone app to..." is wasted language. Sell it with something other than claiming to be the best. Show me. "Stop fumbling with your recording equipment. Click it and forget it." ...or whatever.

          3. "Super easy to use and BUILT for privacy from the ground up."

          4. "Record incoming and outgoing calls. No limit on number of recordings." (omitted a word and a letter)

          5. "As soon as you hang up, your recording IS ready."

          6. The site doesn't mention how the app solves any problems. Educate me on why I would want to use this app (because I'm not in the market for one).

Why is privacy important? If I record a conversation on my phone I expect it to be private anyway. Who else is going to get it? Scare me into using your product.

Why are transcriptions important? How do they save me time or otherwise make my life easier? What difficulty does it avoid for me? Show me the payoff for using your product.

This is very illegal in Europe

    1. 2

It's only illegal if you don't get consent from the other participants first.

  6. 1

Congratulations! And also kudos for asking permission to use their testimonial. Lots of people ignore this important consideration.

  7. 1

Great app. Congrats! How do you plan to monetize?

    1. 1

The users can buy pay-as-you-go minutes packages or subscribe for unlimited recordings.
