Well Damn...

This was a rough week for sure. Last weekend I started working on really integrating Vivid.fm with Clipps and discovered a major flaw in the data model that was going to prevent me from connecting the two. That resulted in me spending the week re-writing the entire podcast ingestion path in order to correct the issue. Now I need to go through and re-index all 490k episodes that we previously had so the bad data is cleaned up.

The worst part is that this changes the ID structure I was previously using, so unless I figure something out soon, users are most likely going to lose the shows they were following. This hurts because I really don't want to lose the trust of these early customers.

On the other side, there is some good news to go along with this fix! There are going to be a couple of nice improvements to both the performance and quality of the product. It's also going to fix this bad bug I had where duplicate versions of the same podcast were being created, and I needed to go in and manually delete the one associated with their old RSS feed.

Overall though, I'm realizing now that this is exactly what I needed to do in order to go from serving up hundreds of thousands of episodes to millions of episodes, and that is exactly what I want out of this product. So while this week started out rough, it's definitely got me motivated than ever to push forward. That's the exciting part of solving tough challenges when you face them...

maybe the duplication isn't a bug, but a feature.

    ... 🤦🏻‍♂️

If only it was that easy 😂
