Launched on Hacker News | Got 5000 visitors

Mani Doraisamy @manidoraisamy

I created the reading list of popular Hacker News users and launched it on HN to see if there is interest. It quickly caught up and was the top post on HN. I got 5000 visitors in 2 days. Read that HN thread here - https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=20233376

Lessons learnt:

  1. Make it specific to the community you are launching. I am pretty sure, it hit the front page because it is the "reading list of HN users" and not some random community.
  2. Accept mistakes. I was initially heavily criticized for the scrolling bug in the site. But, I acknowledged and fixed it. After that, HNers started defending me from users who were critical of that bug.
