Website Launch

After two weeks of research, writing, editing, and designing, my single-page website is finally complete. It's time to launch.

The site is built with a WISYWIG WordPress editor from Thrive Themes. It's been an age since I did web design, but here we are, I made it through.

During my research (the first step of writing any good web copy), I found Roast My Landing Page - a competitor site, and an exceptionally good one. It was great to see that there's already a demand for this!

I've positioned myself differently, offering a written report that will allow customers to make impactful changes quickly without having to re-watch the video reviews.

Here we go!

    Congrats on the release! 🎉

    Here are my first impressions:

    1. I thought it was a blog post based on the layout/style.
    2. "Is your website pulling its weight" - I am not a native English speaker, I have no idea what it means.
    3. Reading a bit more I feel that overall the English used is very confusing/bloated/complex.
    4. No clear CTA (many different buttons and links)
    5. Reaching the end I realized that your photo is at the end of the page, I thought the author was the guy in the first photo circle.

Overall I think the quality is lacking and I would not trust someone to review my web page if the expected result is something similar, it feels like not a lot of effort has been put into designing the page or that there is a lack of experience/knowledge in designing clear web pages.

Thanks for your feedback, I appreciate the honesty. So far no one else I know has had a negative viewpoint so your issues are interesting to me.

It's true that design is not my strong point, writing is. And I'm sorry to hear that the writing feels overly complex and difficult to understand as a non-native speaker. I'll see if there are key points and metaphors which might be English-specific.

So the guy in the circle is clearly not a testimonial? His site is up there and everything. Any ideas on improving that?

I'll see if there are key points and metaphors which might be English-specific

I don't think it was too much about metaphors as of explaining something in long sentences that could be done a lot shorter. For example, the headline mentioned above, with "pulling its weight":

Is your website pulling its weight? When you're bootstrapping, it's not easy to take your complex solution and turn it into crystal clear web copy that wins customers

I have no idea what bootstrapping has to do with this or why does it assume my solution is complex. As you know, the solution is not what my website should explain, but the problem/pain points.

For example, something like this would explain the benefits better from the point-of-view of a startup owner:

"What if you could focus on building your product while we write the perfect website copy for you?"

So the guy in the circle is clearly not a testimonial

I didn't even see the testimonial, as it's a completely separate box from the picture/link of the guy. It should be inside the testimonial box if it's related, or at least have a closer visual connection.

Also, the picture of that guy is exactly below your "I'm a landing page conversion specialist" and while skimming the page I just assume it's you.

If you want to focus on the copy I would suggest using a template or hiring a graphic artist, so he/she can focus on the design and you can do what you are good at, writing copy.

Thank you, I'll consider those changes.
