Different Hunger started as a personal blog and a dream in 2014. My vision was to live on my own terms while making a living and global impact. We exist to awaken & inspire the creative soul through global education.

February 14, 2020 The Era of Enlightenment

While we have the technology to be the most connected we have ever been, our rapid advancement of technology has left our collective spirit more broken and disconnected than ever. We all have lost brothers and sisters due to this global crisis.

Fortunately, a modern renaissance is transforming our world at breakneck speeds thanks to digital, which many are referring to as the #digitalrenaissance and #eraofenlightenment. Creativity, consciousness and global education are the keys to accelerating our global transformation towards a united, thriving world.

This has caused global accessibility to become a major focus for Different Hunger, so after years of selling high-ticket programs from $2,000 to $7,500, I have decided to make our pricing more accessible by introducing annual membership plans starting at $200 per month and soon as 'freemium' membership model to give users a taste before they upgrade, much like Spotify. This will be the foundation of our brand eco-system and in the future I plan to release a creator marketplace, job boards, global meetups and much more.

Thanks to amazing communities like IndieHackers and the no-code creator movement, I feel empowered and excited to see what this next chapter of innovation and impact will look like! Within the next few years more than half the workforce will be freelance - I am excited to make education and access more accessible to this massive, growing market.

It is time for the creators like you reading this to step forward, share your unique gifts and build your legacy. Are you ready to become the Renaissance man (or woman) this world truly needs?

June 11, 2019 My Great Awakening

Honestly, 2019 was full of ups and downs, it truly was my great awakening. Let's start with the ups... In March I got engaged to Anamaria, the woman of my dreams who I met in Colombia after quitting my job :) However, just one month before our wedding, I was hit with the ultimate low point of the year...

My dear friend, mentor and brother Ian Luebbers who had helped me grow Different Hunger from a solo freelance operation to global agency and brand, tragically passed a few days prior. This was a massive wake up call that sent me on a spiritual path and transformed the trajectory of my life and work forever.

January 2019 Launched beta for agencies!

After realizing that many of our agency clients were unable to scale and overworked, we created a new accelerator program to help them solve their systems and automation challenges.

We started by acquiring new clients through cold advertising on Facebook and soon were building a small team of sales reps, marketing manager & business managers plus a few assistants.

We went from highly profitable $20K+ months to increasing our overheads, business complexity and while we went on to gross over 6-figures for the year, we ended up building the type of business I didn't want to build. This was a tough, expensive lesson to learn.

October 1, 2018 Pivoted agency model and broke $15K MRR!

The referrals for my design agency eventually dried up and I was forced to focus on my weaknesses: sales and marketing. After a few long and hard months of experimentation and even depression, I finally started to see results from my prospecting and lead generation efforts.

After sharing the results and some free trainings with the DH community, many of the agencies in the community asked if we could run their lead generation campaigns for them and with that, I pivoted the agency away from design and one-off projects to marketing and monthly retainers.

Within a few months we profitably scaled to $17,500 MRR, however, we discovered our clients were unable to scale due to their poor sales and delivery processes, which led to another pivot...

June 1, 2017 Launched beta program pre-sale for freelancers!

Shortly after breaking 6 figures with my agency, many of my freelance friends from the DH community wanted to know how I did it and what I had learned from my business coach, Ian.

Ian and I decided to launch a pre-sale of our "6 Figure Agency Accelerator" and we sold out 10 spots in 2 months. The launch became a massive success that transformed lives (7 out of 10 students broke $10K MRR within 90 days) and became one of Thinkific's most successful launches to date.

These results led to features on Inc, The Next Web, Thinkific and more!

May 8, 2017 Registered the LLC! And made a BIG mistake...

I registered the LLC for Different Hunger Media and with that my 4 year dream had become a real, living and breathing business that not only supported me, but a global team all over the world. WTF?!?! I got so caught up in my excitement that I posted our new shiny company credit cards on social media...

The ultimate dumbass, facepalm moment. I would love to hear your equally embarrassing (if that's possible?!) stories below :)

April 17, 2017 Overcame debt and burnout to break $100K revenue

After an absolutely brutal year of freelancing, I moved back in with my parents for a few months before heading back to Medellin for round 2.

Finally, business started to catch some serious momentum and after a few referrals I closed over $20,000 of new business in a single day, including an $18,000 website project.

Thanks to my mentor and friend Ian's guidance, I was able to transition from freelancer to agency and build out my agency team to help me delegate my workload and prevent further burnout.

Shortly after, I met Anamaria, who you'll meet later :)

August 1, 2016 Learned the digital nomad dream was a scam lol

I quickly realized the "dream" is nothing like you see on social media. I managed to string together a few client projects and even earn more than I did at my previous job (WOOTWOOT), but my income was inconsistent, I was burned out from working 12+ hours daily and sometimes I went weeks and months at a time without any new projects. After moving back to Brooklyn from Medellin, paying rent was a struggle and I found myself burned out and in debt.

March 25, 2016 Quit my job & bought a one-way ticket to Medellín

After months of wrestling with the decision, the passing of my grandpa and role model inspired me to finally take the leap.

After a year and a half, I quit my desk job at 240 W 30th Street and jumped on a one-way flight to Medellin, Colombia, both excited AF and scared shitless.

I had one $500 freelance design client and the only words I knew in Spanish were tacos, burritos and baño.

May 2014 Published "A Different Hunger" WordPress blog

A few months after a life changing study abroad experience in Australia and a few weeks before graduating from Emory University, I published "A Different Hunger" my personal WordPress blog, documenting my journey into the real world. For the next year and a half, I posted two blogs per week and my Mom and a few of her friends were my primary readers. Humble beginnings, big visions.
