Before Disco, there wasn't an obvious place for a new artist to find their first true fans without a ton of work. Now, there is!

November 11, 2020 MVP Launched 馃殌

I worked super hard on the MVP for two weeks and launched on this day! It was more of a "soft" launch, following the advice by Courtland and Y Combinator and others. I posted it on Twitter, got retweeted by my friends, posted on Reddit, Hacker News, and even here.

I set a limited amount of users as I wanted to "test the waters" so to speak. Wasn't completely sure how well it was going to do so I thought it'd be nice to at least get some small wins.

Well, I blew past that limit (100 sign-ups) in less than 24 hours! Those Reddit posts really pulled in quite a bit of people and I already had waitlist sign-ups the next day.

October 24, 2020 Came up with the idea 馃挕

I saw this submission on Hacker News, LaunchSong, and the comments were raving about how something like it was needed in the music industry but that the submitted site wasn't very user friendly. It was a site for artists to submit their tracks and for potential fans to come in and rank them.

I thought I could do a much better job in terms of UX by combining the core concept (help artists find fans) with a previous idea I had (discover music by swiping through tracks like Tinder). Thus, the idea for Disco was born!
