I wanted to know how much money I spent on food each month. After some research I was tired of the fact that the top ranking apps on the App Store did not support major platform features and were not compelling designed.

January 27, 2021 $770+ MRR

January 2021 will be my best month in terms of revenue yet. MRR is climbing to $770 and I'll be closing around $1,850 in total sales.

Most of this growth is related to new years resolutions I think.

After a slower month in December, I'm very happy with the direction this is heading and I have a lot of stuff planned for 2021 馃帀

November 11, 2020 $650+ MRR

In addition to this awesome milestone, we also crossed 30,000 downloads on the App Store and got featured multiple weeks by Apple. (Mostly DACH and China)

I would say the driving factor which boosted our revenue was the launch of a 3 day free trial for the Fin Premium yearly subscription.

August 11, 2020 10,000+ Downloads 馃コ

It took 1 and a half months to get to this mark. Luckily we were featured in the App Store in Sweden and South Korea, which certainly helped!

But the biggest impact was made by collaborating with bloggers and influencers. :)

Here's to the next 10,000!

July 4, 2020 Launched on Reddit (r/apple)

I expected a lot from this subreddit so I tried to get the wording & timing right. (You are only allowed to post / self-promote apps on Saturday)

I ended up with around 150 upvotes (much less than initially expected) but a lot of helpful feedback.

The downside was that a lot of people had the feeling that I was charging way too much ($3,99 / month, $39,99 / year, $89,99 once).

Where is it coming from that you can't charge for quality apps?

July 1, 2020 Got my first paying customer! 馃挵

To my surprise I sold the first monthly subscription on launch day! Felt great, and a good validation that the app was working. I even sold a lifetime license (around $99) a couple of days after.

I later found out that the App Store team was so kind to feature me in Sweden (under "Apps we 鉂わ笍 right now").

July 1, 2020 Launched on the App Store 馃殌

Luckily the App Store review process went smoothly. Was rejected once for some minor issues (wrong location configuration and missing terms of service page), but I could sort those quickly.

But the marketing preparations took waaaaay longer than expected.

April 14, 2020 Finished MVP

In the end it was not always easy to decide which features to polish and which to cut for the MVP, but I finally finished a solid version.

Next up marketing preparations (landing page & App Store screenshots) and ASO. I set a goal of another 2 weeks for this.

February 29, 2020 Quit job at my previous employer

While working full-time, I could only work on Fin as a side project. But after quitting my job, I had a window of 6 weeks which gave me the opportunity to focus full-time on it.

I set the goal to finish the coding part of the MVP in this time.......

January 10, 2019 Came up with the idea

I wanted to know how much money I spent on food each month. After some research I was tired of the fact that the top ranking apps on the App Store did not support major platform features and were not compelling designed.

So I decided to build the most beautiful budget tracker on the market :)
