Our Story
We started working on Flexiple early, while in College itself, in the hope that it would allow us to become self sustained faster. But the initial months were super tough, to be honest.

Six months after graduation, we were still figuring out the product-market fit and putting cash into business to support product development and employee salaries. We had almost burnt all of our savings and were unsure if the decision to stay bootstrapped was indeed correct.

Looking back now, though, it is so satisfying to realise that the wait was all worth it. We may not have exercised the same autonomy in decision making and execution had we involved external stakeholders. Thankfully, we now have enough cash pile in the bank to sustain us comfortably for at least the next couple of years.

Flexiple is currently in an exciting phase of growth where we are focusing a lot on laying foundations for the long term. We would love your support on PH if you connect with your story and like our product!

I mean its a good concept in a crowded market. I hope you succeed and you didn't ask for feedback but I'll give it anyway.

-I don't like the presumption that someone can decide who is top talent and who isn't, but the quality problem is a real one, and the reason is its much easier to lie and say you have skills than to actually have skills. That being said, that's why good employers test out people they hire themselves before they pay them. India has a bad reputation, especially on freelance sites, because people don't pass that quality test to a high enough frequency resulting in people literally filtering out the entire country, however if you can show the ones that can do what they say they can do, this is much better, but I think the best solution is simply to verify that they can do what they claim (in terms of projects on their site, and that they aren't taking credit from other peoples work), rather than curate the list like some VIP top 1% developer club (those 1% isn't your market - these will go to google/fb/startups, its those that might be the 1%, but have to build up a history of successful projects first).

-Top talent isn't going to work at the rates you think they are - and they aren't going to give you the cut you hope they will (at least long term). If someone finds proven top talent on your site, the first thing they'll do is offer him a job and get him off your site - this should be in your business analysis.

Thanks for sharing your thoughts and these are great points. However, in this case, I would like to speak from experience and not just research since we have spent a really good amount of time on this (close to 4 years now) and spoken to a whole lot of stakeholders :)

      • Verifying skills and work is great and needed, but, unfortunately isn't sufficient for being an amazing remote (freelance) engineer
      • It is in fact the top percentile of engineers who desire and are ready to take the leap to full-time freelancing (we work only with full-timers, no moonlighters)
      • Top talent (at least the ones we have interacted with so far) like the fact that they can rely on our model to seamlessly continue long-term engagements
      • We have multiple ongoing engagements that have been running for over a year or more now. The financials agreed upon at the beginning still stick.

Of course, there are cases when some or all of the above isn't valid but it turns out that this holds true for a larger chunk.
