10,000 registered users & $1,000 monthly revenue

Over the weekend, Frontend Mentor ticked above 10,000 registered users on the platform. Also, revenue for February was $1,011 after launching the first premium challenge on the site.

To have hit these two milestones over the same weekend is a great feeling. Everything is in place now to really start pushing forward and add new premium challenges to the site.

It's not recurring revenue yet, as the premium challenges will be one-off purchases. But I'll be building more features into the platform that will be for paid users to offer recurring value. Once that's in place and I've built up the library of premium challenges I'll offer a subscription option.

I hope everyone else is having a great start to the new month!

Looks amazing, mate! I love the design. Have you built it yourself?

    1. 2

Thanks a lot, Stan! A mate of mine has helped me out with the API code. I've built out the whole front-end and done a little bit on the back-end, but not much.

it reminded me of https://exercism.io/ but for front-end developers :)

I love Exercism, so I'm more than happy with that comparison! Haha 🙂

Well Done Indie Hacker..I think the fact that you gave out great value for free has to do with this rapid success because people trust your work.

Thanks! Yeah, I agree. The fact that basically everything has been free since I first launched will have definitely played a big role.

Thanks a lot, Jen! I'm really happy you like the site. I listened to your IH podcast episode last week by the way. It was great to hear your story. Great work with Lunch Money!

Very nice! I just looked at the site and this could perhaps be something I could use as I'm stuck in tutorial purgatory. Do you have relationships with companies where they would hire people after completing a certain number of challenges? Perhaps a challenge set by a prospective employer and after completing the challenge within a certain time limit will guarantee an interview? Are you doing something like this for backend development? Something for Rails, maybe?

    1. 1

Thanks! I haven't focused on building relationships with companies yet, but this is a potential route to go down in the future. I'll be adding jobs to the site at some point this year and allowing companies to set their own challenges is something I'll be looking at.

I'm only doing this for front-end development though I'm afraid. Front-end code is something I'm particularly passionate about, so I'm not looking to add a similar model for other skills. Perhaps someone else will do this though!

I hope you do find the site useful and enjoy the challenges 🙂

Hi Matts whats the technology stack you used for your website

        1. 1

Hey! It's a Node API with NextJS for server-side rendering, so React on the front-end with Styled Components for the styles. All hosted on Digital Ocean.

How many days you took to complete this product ?

              1. 1

I've been working on the platform part-time for over a year now. It launched in April 2018. I've also had some help on the API side of the coding from a friend as well.
