Hi there everyone 👋
For the past 2 months, I've worked on Good Code — a website where you can download free Adobe XD templates that you can use to improve your HTML and CSS skills, basically an alternative to Frontend Mentor.
Honestly, it was and still is great! I've managed to create a small community with people submitting their code, people have bought templates, and received great feedback. So why am I temporarily pausing work on Good Code?
Well, I'm Egyptian, after finishing college, you're mandated to enroll in the military. Depending on your level of education, you either serve for 1, 2, or 3 years. Thankfully, I'm only doing 1. I spend little time on vacation so there's hardly any time for me to work on Good Code and get the rest I need.
That's pretty much it. I finish my service on the 1st of March next year, so hopefully I will resume working on it by then. Also, if there's ever a time where I feel like there's nothing to do, I might release a template or two.
Thanks for taking the time to read this!
So for Good Code,I thought it would be a good idea for people to share their final code and any feedback through Reddit.
So far, there has been good engagement and 1 person has shared their final code so far. It's great to see people using something you have built!
I just finished developing the React version of Good Code, it isn't anything special but it's good enough for now. If you have time to visit the website and see if there any bugs, that would be greatly appreciated.
P.S. This isn't the live version, so don't enter any email or credit card info.
So yesterday I sent out a survey asking people what sort of template they would like to see, and a pricing page was one of the highest scoring ones. So...I just released a simple and modern pricing page that you can check out over at https://moeminm.github.io/goodcode/ and it's completely free.
Let me know what you think!
So yesterday I posted that I got 150+ downloads after 24 hrs of launch. Well, after another semi-viral post on another subreddit, I got around 400+ users, and the downloads jumped another 150!
This is great, but the $5 template (which I am using a way to validate the idea further) is getting no love.
This is the first time I am charging for a service/product and would love to get your feedback on how to incentivize people to buy the paid template.
Thanks for reading through!
So after a 'semi-viral' post on Reddit, I got over 150 downloads on my templates! Definitely felt good but would've felt good if of those, the paid one got some love haha!
Will definitely be looking into improving the website and adding more templates and variations as time goes on.
Great start nonetheless!
I just launched Good Code on Product Hunt (Link if you want to support https://www.producthunt.com/posts/good-code
Good Code is a website where you can download free Adobe XD Templates to turn into actual websites using HTML and CSS to sharpen your skills.
Let me know what you guys think!
There currently aren't any plans for monetization except a coffee button for anyone who wants to donate.
Converting designs into actual code is always good practice for junior developers, that's the main reason I'm launching this MVP of Good Code.
