I made GummySearch to help other early makers discover niche online communities where their customers hang out, and conversations where people are talking about pain points that they are looking for solutions to.

April 13, 2022 Raised $50k from 234 customers via LTD sale

I ran a private LTD (lifetime deal) because a few of my customers asked for it. The LTD ended up being quite popular in a few of the facebook communities that discuss LTDs.

I wrote up all that I learned about LTDs in this Twitter thread if you'd like to know more: https://twitter.com/foliofed/status/1512155961602949127

June 17, 2021 (Re)launched Landing Page

I got some great feedback on my initial landing page in this IH post.

I'm prepping for an exciting month ahead where I'm distributing my first content, so I took some time to improve my landing page to get more signups for my beta.

The LP changes included adding social proof, adding a use-cases section, and making some of the copy more convincing.

I also started taking conversion tracking more seriously, and am going to check in every week to see how I'm doing. B2C SaaS is a game of conversion funnels, so I want to stay on top of that from the start.

February 10, 2021 Built Proof of Concept

The GummySearch proof of concept was a simple search frontend and an API server that searched Reddit for particular keywords.

Initially, I built it just for myself! I had been marketing the Hive Index (my aggregator of online communities) by searching Reddit for common keywords that folks would include in their Reddit posts when they are looking for online communities for particular niches.

This marketing tactic was so effective for me, but was manual, so I wanted to productize it.

The initial version sped up my own marketing process so that I could spend less than 10 minutes on marketing a day and still effectively spread the word.

Next up, time to validate if this product would work for other indie makers as well.
