Launched PDF Export

Matt Kandler @mattkandler

The most common request I get from Happyfeed users is to give them some way to print out their journals. I usually (very optimistically) reply with something like, "We agree that'd be an awesome feature, hoping to have it done by the end of this year!"

This year, I've finally built and launched the PDF Export option.

So, was it worth it? Honestly, it's hard to say. Here are a few expected effects:

  • Increase app downloads because many competitors offer this feature as well
  • Increase in Plus subscriptions (can't see an obvious change because of typically New Year spike ~25% increase in use)
  • More brand security: Even if Happyfeed were to shut down, journals are exportable, printable things. Might help with retention.

The biggest effect though? Relief!

I've been thinking about this feature for years and it feels like a little corner of my brain just freed up after being dedicated to thinking about template layouts and html-to-pdf npm packages for so long.

Next, I'm planning to improve the messaging on the Happyfeed homepage to better showcase features like this. I think it could really help potential new users in making their decision about the app.
