Reached $1,000 revenue for the month of September!

About 7 weeks ago I posted that Hey Marketers had reached $1,000 in all-time revenue. Well I'm happy to report that this month it broke $1,000 revenue in September alone!

The grand total for the month was $1,002 (unless another job gets posted today 😉)

  • $674 was from companies posting job openings to the site.
  • $328 was from affiliate commissions on different products promoted.

To be completely honest, not has drastically changed that would result in such a spike in revenue. I've continued to be as diligent as I can about reaching out to companies looking to hire, marketing through social media and the email list, and subtly promoting through different niche groups.

In fact, my backlog is long — I've just had more companies post this month, and since it's still a pay-what-you-want model, many of those paid amounts that really helped boost revenue this month!

    Great stuff Corey!

Are you planning to stay on PWYW for a long time?

What would the trigger be that convinces you to set your own pricing?

    1. 1

Not forever, but I’m sorta taking the “don’t fix what isn’t broken” approach. Seems to work really well, so why change it?

I think the catalyst will be when I start getting a lot more traffic and demand a higher price of $100+. But for now it doesn’t seem in my best interest.

Keep it up Corey! I like the idea of PWYW to start, assess what industries/roles/even locations are more inclined to pay.

It’s been super key and such great data points!

    Congrats! That's really awesome.

Do you mind sharing what your outreach to hiring companies looks like?

    1. 3

It’s essentially just a personal note like, “Saw you’re hiring for a {job title} and I’d love to feature this on my job board just for marketers — heymarketers.com. Also, it’s a pay-what-you-want model right now too so no need to break the budget if you want to post it here: heymarketers.com/hire”

Hey, that's a great result. I see so many people struggle with job boards, it's great to see signs of yours working.

How's the Pay What You Want model turning out? What are the most popular choices?

It’s been fantastic. I implemented it super last minute as I couldn’t decide on an initial price point.

I think it really helped get more postings but it’s turned out to be just as “lucrative” essentially.

The main benefit has been getting all the data points to illustrate what people think is fair to pay (since they determine that themselves)

Basically everyone chooses a different number, but some of the really common ones are like 1, 29, 49, 75, 99, 150, 199, 299. All across the board really.

Fascinating. I'm going to give it a try on frontendremotejobs.com :)

Congrats Corey for the reaching amazing milestone! It's very heartwarming and inspiring. You did a good job in activating supply and keeping the site get healthy traffic.

I'm a big fan from the very first story from Makerpad. I just wanna say thank you, you really inspired me to build my own product.

I'm not sure if this is too much ask, but it would be fantastic if you can be my mentor? 🙂

Congrats Corey ! $1000 for a single month is a great achievement eheh. Where does your traffic mainly come from? Have you done any SEO optimizations? I'm planning to launch a job board in addition to my gaming blog, so I'm very interested in the subject.

Thanks man :) yeah a lot from direct, search, and referrals. No high rankings (yet) but getting there!

I’ve found twitter to be a good driver of traffic consistently.

Hey Corey, one question : how do you handle billing (generating and sending unique invoice to your clients) with the combo typeform + stripe ?

        1. 1

Paid version of Typeform allows you to bill with Stripe :)

          1. 1

Are you talking about the feature that allows you to send an automatic email when a form is fulfilled ? (It seems obvious and simple but I am really stuck here... :p)

            1. 1

Nope! On their paid plan, you can charge people using a "payment field" (https://www.typeform.com/help/payment-field-stripe-integration/)
