I have decided to put this project into hibernation. I've converted the site to a static site on Netlify (it was costing me about $100/mth on AWS due to RDS / EC2 usage mostly), and emailed my small user base to let them know that Hindsights is no longer working.
For the last 6 months, I never really felt like I was building something where my customers were all that interested, beyond the abstract answers of "oh that sounds interesting / good", and I never really got anyone interested enough to get concrete feedback upon which I could iterate.
One problem was that I was tackling an incredibly niche area, and I was not placed where the customers were (I'm kind of based in Thailand now for... life reasons) where I could go and just have a chat with them. Coupled with the fact that I have never really done sales/marketing before, and didn't know how to draw in potential users, it was a bit of a disaster.
It feels like I made a lot of "classic" mistakes of focussing on the wrong things, building before I knew that I had a market, not going out there to "talk to humans", and so on.
My first failure - does this make me a real founder? 🤔
