January 1, 2022 HyperCharts acquired by Public.com 🎉

I'm pleased to share that HyperCharts has been acquired by Public.com.

Public was founded to broaden access to the public markets, and soon, HyperCharts’ data visualizations will provide yet another layer of information to Public’s community of curious, modern investors.

July 23, 2021 2021 Q2: ~$16K Revenue

Financials 👉 https://private.hypercharts.co/hypercharts

Highlights:
• 720 Subscribers
• ~$7K MRR currently.
• ~5% Monthly churn rate.
• ~$200 Lifetime value.
• Covering ~220 public companies.

In this quarter, I decided to stop all paid advertising (Google and Twitter) as those weren't performing well for a while but I was still running them in the hope that they'd improve over time. Now I'm focusing more on organic traffic and referrals as well as sponsoring YouTube channels and podcasts. Those have performed much better so far.

April 21, 2021 2021 Q1: ~$28K Revenue

Financials 👉 https://private.hypercharts.co/hypercharts

Highlights:
• 700 Subscribers
• ~$7K MRR currently.
• ~5% Monthly churn rate.
• ~$180 Lifetime value.
• Covering ~215 public companies.

This quarter I decided to experiment with MarketerHire to hire a growth marketer to help me with paid marketing. We already had Twitter Ads and Google Ads running but they weren't performing well, so I wanted to try different channels with the new marketer. We ran Facebook and Reddit Ads for a few weeks, but they too didn't perform that well. So by the end of the quarter I decided to end the experiment and stop all paid ads. MarketerHire was just too expensive to continue the engagement without a positive return on ad spend.

January 8, 2021 2020 Q4: ~20K Revenue

Financials 👉 https://private.hypercharts.co/hypercharts

Highlights:
• 580 Subscribers
• ~$6K MRR currently, ~$12K Revenue in last month.
• ~7% Monthly churn rate.
• ~$160 Lifetime value.
• Covering ~195 public companies.

This quarter we got our first bulk subscriber. They purchased a 50-user license to use our API to integrate HyperCharts data into their platform. I'll need to do more marketing on this and get more partnerships like this.

I'm now also experimenting with YouTube Ads. I made a quick screen capture of HyperCharts, wrote a short script and hired a voice actor to voice it. Still trying to optimize the targeting. We'll see how it performs relative to Google search ads.

November 24, 2020 Launching Affiliate Program 🎉

I've recently completely revamped the referral program for HyperCharts and now we have a full affiliate program where we share 25% of all referred subscription revenue.

We've found through sponsoring multiple youtube channels, podcasts, and newsletters, using multiple arrangements that revenue sharing is the best arrangement for both us and the creator. It gives the creator the flexibility to promote HyperChart however fits their channel, and gives us the predictability of marketing spend and helps with cashflow.

I've been testing this new referral program with a few newsletters and YouTube channels, and it seems to be working much better than the previous referral program.

If you'd like to share HyperChart with your audience, you can find more info here: https://hypercharts.co/referrals

October 6, 2020 2020 Q3: ~$25K Revenue

Financials 👉 https://private.hypercharts.co/hypercharts

Highlights:
• ~$4.4K MRR currently, ~$8K Revenue in last month.
• ~7% Monthly churn rate.
• ~$140 Lifetime value.
• Covering ~160 public companies.

This is the first full quarter with the annual plan being the default, and the revenue increase from that change has been much bigger than I anticipated. Trial conversion rate seems to be holding steady now at ~65%.

Best user acquisition channel continues to be organic YouTube videos, and Google and Twitter ads are still not performing as well as I would hope. So now I'm thinking more seriously about creating a YouTube ad, which might perform much better than text ads due the visual nature of HyperCharts. But not sure how to proceed about it and find someone to create a good quality video ad on a small budget.

July 29, 2020 2020 Q2: ~$9K Revenue

Financials 👉 https://private.hypercharts.co/hypercharts

Highlights:
• ~$3K MRR currently, ~$7K Revenue in last month.
• ~8% Monthly churn rate.
• ~$125 Lifetime value.
• Covering ~140 public companies.

The biggest change this quarter is switching the default subscription plan from Monthly to Annual (https://hypercharts.co/premium). And to my surprise, most subscribers just go with the default. This had 2 big effects on our financials:

  • Revenue increased dramatically ($7K in last month) even though MRR grew much slower (to $3K MRR).
  • Trial conversion rate dropped from ~80% to ~60%.

This has been a net positive change, but I wonder how things would perform if I redesigned the Premium signup page to show both plans at the same time and let the user pick 🤔

My best user acquisition channel is still YouTube videos where people use HyperCharts while they analyze companies for their viewers. I continue to use Google and Twitter Ads but they don't perform that well. This is most likely due to the visual nature of my service where showing the charts on video and going through them really shows you the value of my data/platform, and this is difficult to convey in a Google Ad or Tweet.

I'd love to answer any questions and hear any feedback.

May 19, 2020 2020 Q1: ~$6K Revenue

Financials 👉 https://private.hypercharts.co/hypercharts

Highlights:
• Now covering more than 100 public companies.
• ~$2,000 MRR currently.
• ~7% Monthly churn rate.
• ~$125 Lifetime value.

Because of COVID19, Trial conversion rate dropped from 80% to around 40% between the end of March and mid April, but started recovering to around 65% now. I also paused most of paid advertising because of the uncertainty, but now starting to experiment again slowly with more paid advertising, mostly more sponsored YouTube videos, and a little bit of Twitter ads.

March 4, 2020 $10,000 Revenue

HyperCharts just crossed the $10,000 mark in overall revenue since launching paid subscriptions in March 2019, while being completely bootstrapped.

Some interesting stats:

~$1500 MRR
~5-10% Monthly churn rate
~70% Trial to paid conversion rate

The plan is to continue experimenting with paid ads and sponsorships to accelerate growth.

January 21, 2020 Launched HyperCharts Private Financials 🎉

HyperCharts started as a way to visualize financial and business metrics of public companies, but we’ve gotten many requests to provide the same charts for any private company. So I’m very excited to finally launch the initial version of Private Financials.

Private Financials will allow anyone to enter the basic financial data of any company and share those financial chart on a dedicated page with Investors, other founders, employees, or even publicly. You can customize the Revenue Segments and Expenses as you need, provide estimates for future performance, set a password that your visitor have to enter to access your financial charts, and more coming soon.

As for pricing, I’ve decided to include Private Financials as part of our existing Premium subscription ($10/month) to start, and for companies with more than $1M in annual revenue you’ll have to upgrade to a new PRO plan for ($50/month).
