I started IndieStack because I wasn't feeling connected with my fellow indie entrepeuers. There are some amazing communties out there that are free, but no really relationships are being built in those communities.

August 22, 2020 ProductHunt Launch

Today marks a very big day for IndieStack. We've officially launched on ProductHunt and also crossed 100 amazing and dedicated members. In this post, I want to touch on the reasons I started this private community.

Feedback welcome!

I created this private community because after 9 months of being an indie maker I realized I didn’t have any real online friends. Only people I followed. I vaguely knew many people but never felt like I was a part of anything. Being an indie entrepreneur is a lonely journey so I decided to create a tight and intimate community for us focused on building real genuine relationships.

Another reason I decided to create IndieStack was that so many of the public communities are rooted in building an audience and selling a product. It was getting pretty old to see posts where the author gives their value and then at the end pitches their product. It’s all engineered to bring customers and not build relationships.

Also, there are so many amazing indie entrepreneurs out there like Justin Jackson and Rob Walling who’re already indie superstars that it’s impossible to break into their inner circles. That’s another reason I created IndieStack. To give all of the other digital makers an opportunity to join an amazing inner circle where they can grow with the rest of their peers. We all benefit from the collective.

August 7, 2020 Launched IndieStack

Today I am officially launching the private IndieStack community. For the first few months, we've been in silent mode. Slowly finding like-minded digital makers, bootstrappers, and indie founders. So far we've reached 84 members!

The growth was a little too much, so I decided to add a paywall to add some friction to the process as well as offset some of the costs of running the community. We've also noticed that members are much more committed to the community if they pay a small membership fee.

We're so excited to start implementing virtual meetups, journey stories, and a virtual watercooler. The community is getting to know each other and it's so beautiful to see!

Real relationships are being built in a lonely indie world.

For anyone with the same mindset, I invite you to join :)

June 2020 Came up with the idea

After being apart of many online communities (8+ months), I realized I didn't actually have any real online friends. I knew a lot of people in the maker space, but no legitimate relationships.

I also found it hard to break into some of the indie circles out there. There are a lot of amazing indie makers that have their own circles already. With no real way to be apart of their group.

This is why I thought of creating a private community of digital makers, bootstrappers, and indie founders to build real online friendships.

The goal is to keep the community smaller rather than growing it to thousands of members. The goal is to have every member personally know every other member.
