Launched!

"If you're not embarrassed by the first version of your product, you've launched too late" - Reid Hoffman

The project was built over September and October, but then shelved while I was visiting Ireland. When I got back, I just never launched. Yesterday, I said it works great but lacks features. I'll have an embarrassing time launching this.

There is a lot of work to do, but I would love feedback. The tool works perfectly. I hope to have clear documentation in the coming days. I hope to also complete a demo video of the full process.

I'd love to get more information on the site about what the magic is behind the process. As someone not working with the MERN stack, I imagine "all you need to do" to deploy it is to build your frontend dist, start your backend express application, route some nginx remote proxy to it and voila -- it's working.

To describe the value created by the application, perhaps you can be better at explaining what it actually does other than just "Deploying it".

(Super good name by the way -- hope you can find a domain for it)

Do you have a link and/or description of what it is?

      Yes, I do.

      In short:
It will setup boilerplate code for a MERN stack on a Digital Ocean droplet. This saves someone the effort of setting up an initial code base and a server just to prototype or begin to build out their MVP.

      In long:
Over the past two years, I've had a public repo on Github with boilerplate code that gets lots of traffic. For the most part, it was a great starting point for anyone building an application with a React front-end and Node backend. People used it and could build out their application.

That followed up with how do I now take it off my local machine and put it on a server for others to use. For many, this isn't a hard task but for others using a new stack or not having much coding experience can make this task challenging.

This may seem obvious and there are other services out there but I wanted to see if someone who has the knowledge of building it would simply cut a corner and pay a small fee to get started. This is definitely an experiment. I don't really know if someone is willing to pay for it, but signs definitely point to it. Here is the repo I was referring to before: https://github.com/keithweaver/mern-boilerplate (700 stars). Here is a step by step guide on getting this code onto a server: https://medium.com/@Keithweaver_/setting-up-mern-stack-on-aws-ec2-6dc599be4737 (26k views). If you combined both of them, you accomplish the same thing or you can pay $25 and skip all of that work.

In September, I decided to build JumpStart for the people who just wanted a server running their app. They could simply begin building out their app and not worrying about how to get it to the public.

Here is a post that I published with it: https://medium.com/@Keithweaver_/single-click-deploy-a-mern-application-on-a-server-efbcbdf056ca?sk=714bdcd4e44b17bfeeaca28490e16ca4
