Improved Google "Rich Results" capabilities

Kamran @kamranicus

Last week I spent some time looking through Google's Search Console tool, which every domain owner can access at https://search.google.com/search-console

The tool lets you view your page performance in search, search terms, and critically allows you to check indexing performance and tests your URLs.

What I discovered and spent time fixing last night was that some of my pages that are more content-oriented like video game detail pages were not leveraging the powerful capability called Rich Results. You know when you search for a product, Google will inline rich information like price, description, availability, and reviews? That is called Structured Data and is powered by metadata you can put on your page.

I went through Google's guides and testing tools to make sure my pages included that structured data using some script called JSON-LD, which is just a basic schema format that follows a spec. This guide is the best place to start: https://developers.google.com/search/docs/guides/intro-structured-data

If you're a site owner and haven't checked out Search Console, I encourage you to as it might surface organic search issues on your site and every little bit helps to bring more users to your site.
