It's incredibly difficult to find a gym to train at - especially when you're not at home, and even more so if you train for a strength sport. More typical commercial gyms don't have the equipment needed either.

August 8, 2021 Added over 50 total gyms

The number of gyms on the map and directory is now over 50! Each one is suitable for people training for strength sports.

About 40% of the gyms on the site are user-submitted.

The plan now is to keep sharing the site to get regular traffic, and to build filtering functionality to make it more useful.

After that I'm going to start developing a way to automate data gathering and input. Ideally curating gyms shouldn't take more than a few clicks. But I also want to keep listing quality high with images and detailed info.

June 30, 2021 Soft launched

As part of my '1 project per month' challenge I soft launched Map of Strength just before the end of the month.

The MVP is a little scrappy, and there's a lot of work to be done. There's only a little bit of data on the site, and there needs to be a lot more. But the MVP is just enough to start showing it to people and to get some traffic.
