50k on Twitter + Name Change

Hola. Buenos Dias.

My Marketing Examples Twitter account hit 50k followers!

Same strategy as it always was:

I also changed the name:

Marketing ExamplesHarry's Marketing Examples

Explained my reasons here:

Anyone from the UK is probably aware of the public rallying behind Joe Wicks P.E. livestreams over lockdown.

The amount of press and new YouTube + Instagram followers he got will return tens of millions of pounds down the line. I believe he's already signed a multimillion deal for a new cookery book.

If Joe made The Body Coach a faceless company there is absolutely no way he'd have the publics backing in the way it transpired.

Obviously this isn't the case for every company. But when you're in the content creation space there's a lot of advantages to having a real person at the helm.

Imagine if you scratched J.K. Rowling's name of the Harry Potter books. And instead it was authored by “Bloomsbury media”. Not as magical!

There's definitely cons as well:

  • Harder to sell
  • Confusing for existing followers
  • Less of an “authority”

But I just didn't see them as close to outweighing the pros.

Anyway. That's a wrap from me. I'll do a write up in a couple of months about the effect of making the company more personal.

Cya at 60k :)

    Agree re: name change.

    Personal brand > anything else.

In the past couple of days I've seen you twice on twitter, decided to follow you, and now I see you pop up on Indie Hackers—you must be doing something right! As someone in the early stages of attempting to build a community, I'll be studying your moves and advice closely from now on if you don't mind :)

Quick question regarding your social following: would you recommend attempting to gain a following on social media at the very beginnings of a project, or waiting until you have a small audience to seed those accounts with? With my current project, my goal is to build an email list over the coming months filled mainly be traffic garnered from organic traffic to my website. I do want a social media presence for this project, but I worry about the negative association that comes with having a small amount of followers (especially the dreaded zero).

My current plan was to let the website build a following, then launch social media accounts gradually to said following, so the account can skip the initial low follower phase.

What do you think? Forget the negative perception of low-follower accounts and go live with a social media presence ASAP, or give it some time so I have an initial audience on these social platforms upon creating the accounts?

Nice! Your tips actually helped me write better!

Hola Harry. I dig this. It also fits well with your previous post that landing pages need real faces from real people.

    ps. It's buenos días :)

Love it! I also believe in the power of personal brands, especially if it’s true. Why pretend you are a faceless corp, if you can be an inspiring person! Great move, Harry

Looking at the success of your reveal tweet, people seem to like it.

I'm sure it's the right decision in the long term. Public accountability always helps.

time will tell. was surprised people cared that much tbh. but no complaints :)

    Congratulations! Amazing results!

I'm trying to make visual tips for UX/UI and these tweets don't get any upvotes or likes. While memes and jokes might go viral =(

    This is an example: https://twitter.com/vponamariov/status/1296802517486055424

It takes much time to produce such content. I know it's not perfect but still... hm...

hmm. it's a long process. And it's hard. People share 9/10 stuff and above.

I think your diagrams are useful, but it just doesn't blow me away enough to click “like”.

I've had loads like you. Just got to push yourself and try and be a bit different.

Nice! What made you do this instead of just rebranding as Harry Dry?

    1. 1

cause i intend on writing more stuff (not about marketing) as myself and wanted to keep seperate

Thanks— that makes good sense 👍

I think that's a positive change. You turn yourself into a brand and I think 'Harry's Marketing Examples' is more recognisable. Your tips are genius so it's only a matter of time until 60k!
