I met many people while living abroad, volunteering in alumni networks, traveling and hosting Couchsurfers. With reminders I do not forget important things, when I am too focused.

July 28, 2021 First $500 made online

Took more than a year, but that's $500 more than I expected. I almost didn't see that I reached this milestone. I only saw it randomly today.

Amicu doesn't have tons of users. It's not growing fast. But a few people use it daily. And some of them are happy to pay.

My main observation would be that things take time. I think it's better to keep a slow pace than to sprint and stop.

Currently, I work on a different side project. But it's to experiment and learn for the next iteration of Amicu.

Thanks to the IH community for all the feedback, knowledge sharing and support.

February 1, 2021 Made more money in Jan 21 than whole 2020

A great start for the year. In whole 2020 I made $170 and in Jan 2021 alone $140.

And now there's the lower App Store fee for indie developers. So this means I keep more money.

I had 190 downloads, which is almost 3x compared to the average from 2020.

January 1, 2021 $170 and 800 downloads in Amicu's first year

Most downloads came directly from the App Store. And one Reddit post was quite successful.

I'm happy with these results for a side project. In fact it's the first money I made online with my own product. And I use Amicu daily.

I'm excited to see how things will develop in 2021.

November 13, 2020 Made my first 100$ on the internet

I got two new subscribers for Amicu and my total revenue is now at around 103 $.

Monthly subscriptions: 5 (3 churned)
Yearly subscriptions: 3 (1 churned)
MRR: 17$
Monthly active users: 310

The next steps for me are some QA updates, more Reddit posts and preparing for the PH launch finally.

October 25, 2020 300+ upvotes on r/SideProject

Basically, I just posted a screenshot and a short comment what Amicu is and why I build it. I got lot's of positive comments, feedback and questions.

It's now in the top posts for this year for the Reddit. Over the next days I got around 200 downloads from this.

I also made sure to answer every comment as quickly as possible.

Monthly subscribers: 0
Yearly subscribers: 2
MRR: $4
Total Revenue: $46.9

What did I do?

  • I added a German app name and keywords for ASO.
  • I reached out to some people interested in apps to keep in touch on Reddit.

What's up next?

I'm working on a really long list / knowledge base on everything you need to know about personal relationships. I plan to share this in various related groups.

June 4, 2020 πŸŽ‰ Second customer converted from trial

Well, first there was a billing error with the App Store. Good that I don't have to deal with it. RevenueCat handles it automatically.

I now have two yearly subscribers, which brings me to around 4$ MRR and 46.9 $ total revenue (different tier prices in the App Store).

And I received my first money from Apple. The first money earned online without freelancing etc.

May 26, 2020 Update shipped with custom reminders, filters ...

Everyone asked me about custom reminders. Now it's in the app.

But there's also filters, contact count and many usability improvements.

When I use the app myself I find it very nice and I got positive feedback from users as well.

Working on the product is the most fun part for me.
