April 21, 2021 Released first version on App Store

After three intense week of building, we finally released our very first version of Milla Speak on App Store. While this was very much a MVP, we still prioritized to have subscriptions in the app from the very beginning.

We currently figuring out how to proceed, which features to build and how to do the marketing.

April 17, 2021 Launched website

Before launching on the App Store, we felt the need of a simple website. I did the minimum work required and set up a very simple React website based on a free template. We purchased the domain millaspeak.com so and went live with a very first version.

April 2, 2021 Came up with the idea

The idea to the app came up during a long walk in the forest. Milly had moved to Sweden one and a half months ago and were currently studying hard to learn Swedish. There are a lot of great resources for writing, reading and listening. But when it comes to speaking, we generally rely on practicing with each other.

Not everyone who moves to a new country have someone native speaking to practice with. And even if you have, it's not always the most fruitful conversations as the complexity has to be kept at a minimum.

Modern speak recognition technology is great, and it's constantly getting better. So we saw an opportunity to take advantage of this and build an app where you can speak a sentence and get feedback for whether or not the speech-to-text service is able to correctly classify the words.
